“I’ve had enough of you! Buzzing like a fly all day,” Jing Lai snapped.

“You... you just wait! Someone’s coming to rescue me soon. You’ll be left here to drown! Xiao Wen, I’ll take you with me when we go!” Weiwei sobbed, covering her face.

Just then, a shark fin appeared on the dark surface of the water, rapidly approaching the building.

“Look! What’s that?”

“Oh my God, is it a shark?”

Those hoping for rescue stared anxiously, too hungry to care, occasionally opening their mouths to eat a few red worms.

The roof was packed with customers and supermarket staff. When someone shouted, everyone’s attention turned to the mysterious shape in the water.

A young man pulled out his phone and started recording. “Here we are, trapped on the roof of Aijia Supermarket for the second hour, and what seems to be a shark is swimming toward us! Wow, it’s so fast and cool! Wait... it’s not a shark. Look, there’s a light on it.”

“Oh my God, it’s a speedboat!”

In the blink of an eye, the shark-like vehicle arrived at the roof. The sound of its motor echoed, grabbing everyone's attention, and people began to realize it was some sort of speedboat!

The crowd buzzed with excitement, cheering.

“Is it the police? Are they here to save us?”

“Don’t be silly. Why would the police show up in a shark boat? And that thing’s so small, it can’t save many people.”

“What are we going to do? The water’s rising fast. If it keeps going, we’ll all drown here, won’t we?”

“I don’t want to die!” someone sobbed.

Among the sea of bald heads, Jing Shu spotted Jing Lai, wearing a rain hat and raincoat. She steered the shark boat directly toward her. The motor roared as Jing Shu struggled to keep the boat steady.

She opened the window, shouting over the wind, rain, and red worms, “Aunt! Are you okay?”

“Jing Shu? How did you get here in this flood? I’m fine, thanks to all the gear you gave me!” Jing Lai shouted back, equally thrilled. She had been prepared to swim back home if rescue hadn’t arrived, but with the fierce current, anyone who fell into the water would be swept away.

“Come on, hurry up! I didn’t tell Grandma that you were stuck in this flood. If she found out, she’d be crying her eyes out,” Jing Shu shouted over the noise.

So, this speedboat had come just to pick someone up!

Weiwei’s eyes widened in disbelief, tears streaming down her face. This was Jing Lai’s niece—while she was here waiting for rescue, Jing Lai’s niece had come personally to save her. How lucky could someone be?

At that moment, the surrounding crowd began to plead desperately, “Please, save us too!”

“Help me! I don’t want to die!”

The young man continued filming with his phone. “That shark boat is seriously cool, and it’s being driven by a girl. Too bad she’s only here to rescue her family. The rest of us are probably going to die here…”

Jing Lai, after her initial excitement, became conflicted. As part of the supermarket’s management team, she couldn’t just leave everyone behind. “Jing Shu, can we figure out a way to save these people too?”

Jing Shu frowned and shouted back, “Aren’t the police from the Second Unit stationed nearby? Why aren’t they sending rescue teams?”

Jing Lai yelled back, “The flood hit the oil base first, where the buildings are old and the water’s rising fast. There are elderly people and children there. They told us to hold out here because this building is higher, but it doesn’t look like we’ll last much longer.”

Fortunately, Aijia Supermarket had three floors above the ground; otherwise, it would’ve been submerged already.

Jing Shu didn’t naturally think about saving others—her experiences in the previous life had taught her to prioritize her own survival. In this life, she decided she’d save people when it was within her abilities, but she couldn’t go beyond that.

Jing Shu shouted, “Wait a minute! Everyone quiet down for a second. I’ll call Officer Li Yitian to find out when the rescue will arrive!”

The noisy crowd fell silent immediately. Though they didn’t expect the small boat to save them all, they placed their hopes on this girl, who might be able to summon help from the police.

The young man kept filming, capturing Jing Shu as she said, “Officer Li, I just wanted to ask where the nearest emergency shelter is. I’ll take responsibility for evacuating the people from the supermarket.”

“Okay, got it. Have someone waiting there for us,” she said into the phone.

Most of the crowd heard Jing Shu’s words. In the storm and rain, everyone had to shout, but the atmosphere remained tense and uncertain. No one knew how this girl was planning to save them all with such a small boat.

After ending the call, Jing Shu looked determined. Although she had become desensitized to death, she couldn’t ignore these lives when it was within her power to save them. If saving them was simple and didn’t expose any of her secrets, she would do it.
