Chapter 172: Luxuriously Extravagant with a Mobile Villa
I Farm In The Apocalypse
Hearing this, Jing Shu smiled.
That’s why you should never worry about being too flashy or lowering your quality of life to avoid attention. Life will always surprise you, showing you how others live in extravagance beyond imagination. There is no “most luxurious,” only “more luxurious.”
Jing Shu’s goal in this life was simple: live comfortably without actively seeking attention, but never fear trouble either. She aimed to strike a balance between maintaining a low profile and ensuring her comfort.
“Shall we go check it out?” Wu Youai asked, her eyes gleaming with curiosity.
“Let’s go.” Jing Shu was also curious to see just how many over-the-top wealthy people were left in the post-apocalyptic world.
They had finished setting everything up, leaving the rest to her father and third aunt. Her grandmother was busy preparing lunch, and her grandfather was making foldable stools out of wooden planks. Everyone seemed occupied.
Jing Shu’s mother was on the phone, repeating herself several times due to the poor signal, “Yes, yes, we’re in Z District, Cave 5!”
Z District Cave 4 was much larger than Cave 5, and many people had gathered there to watch the spectacle. The display of wealth was truly impressive—three trailer homes were being pulled by a large SUV, followed by a cargo truck.
There were over ten workers setting up camp under the command of a supervisor. A generator roared to life, casting bright lights across the cave.
When Jing Shu and Wu Youai arrived, the workers had already built a 100-square-meter platform about 30 centimeters high, covered it with a red carpet, and started setting up a framework for a foldable steel-panel house.
Jing Shu recognized it as a container house.
These were commonly used during disaster relief efforts for quickly assembling temporary housing. It was said that in China, they could build enough temporary homes for tens of thousands of people within half an hour if there was flat ground available.
Later, luxury versions of these container houses became popular among the wealthy, with each unit costing over a million yuan.
“Are they building a house here?” someone asked.
“It looks like it. Wow, they even have a sofa, a king-sized bed, a bathtub, a flat-screen TV, and a refrigerator. Are they setting up a house right here?” someone else exclaimed.
“I never lived this luxuriously even before the apocalypse...” others murmured, their voices tinged with envy.
As the door to one of the trailers opened, people caught a glimpse of its interior and collectively gasped.
This KTV (karaoke) trailer was playing songs by a popular singer, filling the cave with music. The booth was casually filled with all sorts of food and drinks, making it impossible to look away. But the two large snakes slithering in the back of the trailer made everyone gasp again.
At that moment, a woman wearing high heels and a red dress stepped out. Her delicate makeup made her look graceful and lovely, and everyone froze. Wasn’t this the famous singer from the screen?
“How do you like the environment here? You might have to rough it for a few days, my little darling,” a man behind her said, roughly grabbing her in public. He loved the feeling of showing off his dominance over a famous celebrity, thinking about how high and mighty she once appeared on screen. Now, she was under his control, and that made him feel thrilled.
Qin Feifei gritted her teeth in secret. In the two months before the apocalypse, China had launched a massive crackdown on tax-evading celebrities. Many were arrested for various reasons, and this man had seized on one of her mistakes. If she didn’t play along, she would be the one rotting in prison right now.
She vowed to get back at him one day, repaying him for this year of humiliation a hundredfold!
Outwardly, Qin Feifei played the role of a coy lover, smiling and saying, “I really like it here. But there are so many people... I don’t like them watching me.”
“If you don’t like it, we’ll find somewhere more private,” Zhou Da Heng said, lifting her effortlessly and carrying her into another trailer.
Moments later, the trailer began to rock rhythmically, and soon, sounds that needed no description followed.
“She’s having a tough time, huh? Being reduced to a rich man’s plaything after the apocalypse,” someone whispered.
“Yeah, but look at her—she’s eating well, living well, and still enjoying life. What woman wouldn’t want to live like that?”
Jing Shu shook her head. Anyone who could survive the pre-apocalypse celebrity crackdown had it tough afterward. Some even managed to align themselves with the military.
As the crowd continued to watch the construction unfold, people speculated about the family’s identity, amazed by the extravagance of their setup. That’s when even more shocking news arrived.
“Holy crap! You guys have to check out the plaza. They just brought in an entire villa—there’s a whole row of them now!”
“Stop exaggerating! A villa would weigh hundreds of tons. How could they move something like that?”
“You’re so out of touch! These are lightweight steel villas with no foundation, designed for easy assembly and transport.”
The crowd buzzed with excitement, and Wu Youai urged Jing Shu to join in. Jing Shu agreed and followed along.
This kind of spectacle had happened in the previous life too.
Back then, Jing Shu had spent a miserable night in the cave, cold and hungry, before hearing the news that someone had brought in an entire villa. Naturally, she had to go check it out.
And what she saw left a lasting impression, both then and now. Just as she had witnessed in her past life, it was an unforgettable sight. A two-story villa was effortlessly transported and assembled in the plaza. Within five minutes, it looked as if it had always been there, perfectly in place.
Within an hour, the plaza was transformed into a luxurious villa district. The advantage of these mobile villas was that they were stylish, energy-efficient, well-insulated, warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and resistant to earthquakes and typhoons.
In the post-apocalyptic world, there were always people who traveled with mobile villas, living in a way that Jing Shu had once envied to the point of despair.
Compared to them, her setup was nothing. She only had a trailer.
Wu Youai was practically drooling at the sight, but a phone call from Jing Shu’s mother interrupted her excitement. She had to go meet her uncle’s family, who had just arrived at the shelter, so she reluctantly left.
The plaza was crowded with onlookers, and despite the continuing rain, the temperature had risen back to 35°C during the day. People stood in the rain, eating and watching the spectacle unfold.
Jing Shu soon found her uncle’s family, who were drenched from the rain. They had brought about 300 people from their neighborhood to the shelter. Unlike Jing Shu’s family, they didn’t receive any special treatment—after receiving their registration cards, they were left to fend for themselves.
Just like Jing Shu in her past life, they couldn’t help but stare in awe at the luxurious mobile villas being assembled in the plaza.
“We’re in Z District, Cave 7. It’s pretty close to your spot,” her uncle said.
“I know the way. Let me guide you there.”
As the group made their way past the luxury container homes in Cave 4, their envious gazes lingered.
It was clear: Jing Shu’s family might be considered wealthy, but Zhou Da Heng, with his luxury container homes, was on another level entirely. And those who brought their mobile villas? They were in a league of their own.
