Chapter 171: A Three-Bird Revenge Plan
I Farm In The Apocalypse
Back in Cave 6, Zhou Dafu’s legs were still trembling as he stormed back, furious. He kicked Zhou Dasheng, shouting, “You idiot! I told you to go claim that spot to sleep, not to mess with their chicken! Now look at us, stuck crammed in this tiny cave!”
Zhou Dasheng knew his brother was venting his anger, so he only muttered softly, “I saw that The Fat Chicken running around, so I figured, with so many of us, catching one chicken should be easy.”
“Well, what are you going to do now?” Zhou Dafu grumbled, feeling like he never won any arguments. The thought of not getting revenge gnawed at him.
“Let’s tell Brother Da Heng about this and ask him to help us get back at them.”
Zhou Dafu smacked Zhou Dasheng on the head. “You fool! You think Brother Da Heng is some kind of attack dog who will take care of this for us? Sure, if we had the chicken to offer him, maybe he'd help us out. But now we’ve even lost the gun! We’ll get scolded to death!”
Zhou Dasheng’s eyes lit up with an idea. “Brother Dafu, doesn’t Brother Da Heng have two pet snakes?”
“Two five-step snakes,” Zhou Dafu said, his voice filled with awe. “I’ve heard that if they bite you, you can’t walk more than five steps before dropping dead. That venom is no joke.”
Zhou Dasheng grinned like a sly rat. “Exactly, bro. We may have lost the gun, so we can’t confront them head-on, but we can still get creative.”
“What are you suggesting?” Zhou Dafu asked.
“Brother Da Heng lives just over in Cave 4. We steal the snakes and secretly release them where that family sleeps. If we’re lucky, the snakes will bite a few people before getting eaten by their chicken. And when someone dies, it’ll be Da Heng’s problem for letting his snakes escape, right?”
Zhou Dafu’s eyes brightened as he realized the genius of the plan. “That’s brilliant! A three-bird plan! No matter what happens, Da Heng will end up at odds with them, and we’ll have our revenge. He’ll take care of the dirty work for us!”

Meanwhile, the family’s prized chicken had no idea it was being plotted against. It was happily pecking away at the red threadworms crawling around the cave floor. The chicken had an obsessive compulsion: it couldn’t stand seeing any food left uneaten.
Cave 5 had two entrances, one at the front and one at the back. Jing Shu’s family chose a cozy corner by the wall. The rest of the neighborhood residents were scattered around, either settling into their own spots or sitting on the floor chatting.
Some people had wandered around other caves and returned, sharing their observations.
“We’re lucky to be staying here. The space is huge! I saw other caves so packed, people can’t even stretch their legs. It’s worse than riding a hard seat on a train!”
“Exactly! I heard someone say we got this spot because someone here has connections. I think it was Officer Li from the Second Squad who arranged this.”
Everyone instinctively glanced toward the family from the villa district. Yep, it must be them. The more time they spent together, the more mysterious and influential the family seemed.
“Do you guys remember that photo Xiao Shu sent around, showing how Zhou-whatever-his-name ended up? He died a horrible death! I used to wonder how it happened. Now I get it—it was their chicken that did it.” Someone even pulled up the photo again for comparison, causing everyone’s faces to pale further.
It was terrifying! This family killed without hesitation.
As they watched the villa family work, a mix of envy and caution hung in the air.
The family seemed to have everything: guns, weapons, a lethal chicken, police connections, and jobs in the livestock industry, agricultural bureau, and community services. The villa family was practically the wealthy landlords of the area, while everyone else were mere peasants.
But the way they organized their belongings was truly impressive. Everything was spotless and tidy—they clearly valued cleanliness.
The cave was dim, so Jing Dad set up a flashlight while Jing Mom thoroughly cleaned the area. Jing Lai wiped down the walls with a rag, making sure everything was spotless.
Jing Dad swept away the water pooling on the cave floor, while the chicken eagerly gobbled up any red threadworms it found.
Jing Shu unfolded the plastic sheets she had prepared in advance, covering the wooden boards to create a large canopy. This would keep the family dry in case water dripped from the cave ceiling.
The canopy covered their entire section of the cave, about one-sixth of the space, roughly 40 square meters.
They laid wooden boards on the floor, then inflated waterproof air mattresses on top. Finally, they set up a row of pop-up tents, creating a neat little living area.
What made everyone most envious was when Jing Shu took out thick sleeping bags and laid them inside the tents. People’s eyes practically gleamed with longing.
Look at how this family was living! They were essentially camping in style, while everyone else had barely brought a change of clothes, and those who brought blankets had nothing but damp, cold ones.
Jing Lai finished wiping down everything and sprayed the area with eucalyptus oil, filling the cave with a pleasant scent.
Jing Shu set up the chicken’s nest beside the tent and installed a portable toilet in the corner, shielding it with a makeshift privacy screen.
Their BYD car was parked at an angle, with its rear blocking part of the view. They used wooden boards to block off the rest, ensuring privacy. Some neighborhood residents were disappointed—they had hoped to watch how the family lived in more detail.
Jing Shu then took out a folding table, set it up, and added six folding chairs. The portable stove and cooking equipment were neatly arranged, turning the area into a small dining space. She even hooked up a power line from the car to charge their phones and use low-power appliances.
Finally, she inflated an air mattress in the middle of the area, both for safety and as a makeshift sofa.
Once everything was set, Jing Shu used a car-mounted hair dryer to blow-dry the area. The cave was damp, and she couldn’t stand the constant moisture. She was prepared to blow-dry it twice a day if necessary.
While the rest of the neighborhood residents lamented that they couldn’t peek into the family’s setup, they were soon distracted by a commotion from Cave 4.
“Wow! Come check out Cave 4—they’ve got three trailers parked like a train! It’s so cool!”
“What’s a trailer?”
“Let’s go take a look! I heard they brought a ton of stuff too!”
