Chapter 203: I Adopted a Little Girl

Gu Zhiyu felt the world spinning before his eyes. When his vision finally refocused, the face that haunted his dreams suddenly leaned down toward him.

This was the first time An Nan had ever kissed him of her own accord.

It was awkward, gentle, and a little bit shaky, making his heart itch with longing.

He had achieved fame and success while still young, and he’d experienced many moments of triumph over the years, but none had ever made him feel as elated and exhilarated as he did right now.

Gu Zhiyu reached out and pulled An Nan into his arms. This time, he didn’t close his eyes; instead, he carefully took in every detail of her face, as if carving it into his memory.

The sun was setting, and the noisy rain outside the window sounded like it was beating right on his heart.

After a long moment, An Nan lifted her head, a faint blush blooming on her fair skin.

Gu Zhiyu reached out and gently brushed her lips. He was just about to say something when he suddenly felt that something was off.

An Nan felt it too.

They both turned their heads and saw the three little ones sitting in a neat row not far away, staring at them in shock.

Fugui had its head tilted, Tuye was staring straight at them, and Laifu was being dramatic, covering half its eyes with a wing but peeking through the feathers as hard as it could.

Only then did An Nan realize what was happening. Flustered, she tried to get up from Gu Zhiyu.

Oh no! She’d actually let the three little ones watch her throw herself at a man!

Where was her dignity as their owner?

Gu Zhiyu let out a muffled grunt as she pressed against his chest.

He glanced at the three little ones again, then wrapped his arms around An Nan and suddenly stood up, sweeping her off her feet and into his arms.

An Nan was startled and quickly wrapped her arms around his neck. “Hey—”

Gu Zhiyu’s dark eyes locked onto hers. “Let’s go inside.”

As he spoke, he carried her into the bedroom.

The room still carried that familiar scent of roses.

He took a deep breath, softened his movements, and gently laid her down on the bed. Then he leaned over and kissed her again.

An Nan closed her eyes, her lashes trembling, her tongue responding to Gu Zhiyu’s passion.

Her mind grew hazy and a little confused.

They’d only just made their relationship official—surely they weren’t about to… do that?

Heaven knew, she’d only meant to steal a kiss!

But things were clearly spiraling out of her control.

An Nan gently pushed at him, trying to get away, but Gu Zhiyu kissed her eyes with almost reverent tenderness, then her nose, her ears, her neck…

Just as An Nan’s thoughts were spinning, there was a knock at the door.

She snapped back to her senses and, relieved, gave Gu Zhiyu a shove. “Someone’s here.”

Gu Zhiyu ignored her.

From outside came Chu Peipei’s voice: “Nannan, are you home?”

“Maybe she’s already asleep?”

Afraid Chu Peipei would leave, An Nan panicked and bit Gu Zhiyu.

He grunted, as if finally coming to his senses.

“An’an?”

An Nan, feeling weak and mortified, gave him a light punch. “Peipei’s looking for me!”

Gu Zhiyu frowned, clearly displeased.

An Nan didn’t care how he felt. Taking advantage of his distraction, she pushed him away and got up to open the door.

Chu Peipei had just knocked twice more and was about to head home when the door to 1402 suddenly swung open.

An Nan looked like she’d just seen her savior. “Peipei-jie, you’re here!”

Chu Peipei turned back at the sound, smiling. “Nannan, I—”

She froze mid-sentence.

Staring at An Nan’s disheveled hair and flushed cheeks, her eyes went wide.

“What the heck!”

What had this girl been up to??

Before she could say anything else, Chu Peipei spotted Gu Zhiyu behind An Nan, looking a little cold.

It was obvious what had just happened in the apartment.

Chu Peipei’s mouth twitched. “Did I interrupt something?”

She couldn’t help but marvel—were these two on a rocket ship with how fast their relationship was moving?

Nannan had always seemed clueless about romance, but now that she’d figured it out, she was going wild. Her lips looked like she’d just gotten fillers.

An Nan quickly took her arm. “No, no, Peipei-jie, you’re just in time!”

She smiled eagerly. “What brings you here? Come in, let’s talk inside.”

With that, she pulled Chu Peipei into the apartment.

Chu Peipei gave Gu Zhiyu an awkward greeting. “Hello.”

Gu Zhiyu had calmed down by now and replied politely, “Hello.”

The group went inside, but unlike their usual enthusiastic greetings, the three little ones just sat in a row by the sofa, not moving.

Chu Peipei looked puzzled. “What’s up with them?”

Following her gaze, An Nan saw that the pets were still frozen in shock.

She sighed helplessly. “They’re just young—haven’t seen much of the world…”

Chu Peipei understood and chuckled, leaning in to whisper, “Take it easy. Animals may not talk, but they understand everything—especially these smart ones of yours.”

An Nan blushed furiously. “I didn’t do anything…”

Chu Peipei didn’t believe her. “Yeah, yeah, whatever you say.”

They sat down on the sofa, and An Nan poured her a glass of water.

Chu Peipei glanced at the couple sitting close together—typical new lovers, practically glued to each other.

She grinned. “Nannan, you two are…”

An Nan was a little embarrassed, but still introduced them openly:

“This is my boyfriend, Gu Zhiyu.”

Chu Peipei smiled at Gu Zhiyu. “Congratulations.”

Gu Zhiyu was in a good mood too. “Thank you.”

After a bit of small talk, Chu Peipei got to the point. “Actually, it’s nothing important. I just wanted to see if I could trade some snacks with you.”

“Snacks?”

An Nan was surprised. Chu Peipei never ate snacks—whenever she had any, she’d trade them for supplies with An Nan and Zhao Ping’an.

Chu Peipei explained, “Yeah, preferably gummies, pudding, or jelly—sweet things. Kids like them.”

An Nan was even more confused. “Kids?”

Chu Peipei nodded. “Yeah, little Guai, she…”

She suddenly remembered she’d gotten distracted by An Nan’s lips earlier and never finished telling her about little Guai.

So she straightened up and said, “I adopted a little girl.”

An Nan was truly shocked this time. “When did that happen? Where did the little girl come from?”

Chu Peipei told her the whole story.

Then she added, “The kid was so skinny and pitiful, I wanted to get her some tasty snacks.”

An Nan was silent for a moment.

She felt vaguely uneasy, but Chu Peipei wasn’t the type to act out of blind kindness. This was the first time she’d ever shown such compassion for someone else, and the girl was just a child.

Since Chu Peipei had already made up her mind, An Nan didn’t feel she had the right to interfere.

So she just asked, “Why did you come by yourself? Where’s the child?”

Chu Peipei explained, “She’s asleep. I couldn’t bear to wake her. She had nightmares all last night, so she finally managed to get some real rest today.”"
