Chapter 226: Faking an Accident
Natural Disasters and the End of the World, She Went Crazy After Stocking Up on Supplies
The two brothers eyed the unfamiliar black armored vehicle warily at first.
But when they saw An Nan’s familiar figure, they finally got down from the water tanker and greeted her. “Miss An!”
An Nan smiled. “You guys are early.”
She had arrived more than ten minutes ahead of the agreed time, but still ended up later than them.
Jiang Tian grinned cheekily. “Of course we had to come early when meeting a beautiful lady.”
An Nan just smiled without replying.
Both sides knew perfectly well that the real reason was to avoid being ambushed.
After all, An Nan had chosen the meeting spot. Since they were coming here on her terms, it only made sense for them to show up earlier than expected, just in case she had set some kind of trap.
Jiang Weiming glanced at the armored vehicle behind An Nan, its doors tightly shut.
The windows were pitch black—he couldn’t tell if anyone else was inside.
“Nice ride, Miss An.”
An Nan curled her lips. “I think so too.”
Jiang Weiming was taken aback for a couple of seconds, as if surprised by her lack of modesty.
He forced a smile. “The water tankers are all here. Do you need us to help drive them away?”
An Nan shook her head. “No need. The water storage location is confidential. I have to make sure you’ve left before their people come to drive the trucks away.”
She shrugged. “Even I don’t know where they store the water.”
Jiang Weiming nodded, not objecting.
That was normal—he didn’t know where the You family’s secret reservoir was either.
An Nan went over to inspect the water tankers. The vehicles were in good condition, and all the hoses and equipment for pumping and filling water were present.
The handover went smoothly. “All good.”
The two brothers nodded and drove off in their van.
An Nan got into the armored vehicle and followed them from a distance. Once she confirmed they’d entered the city, she doubled back.
She circled the area a few times to make sure there were no ambushes, then returned to the tankers and stored them away in her space.
After a moment’s thought, she took out a shovel and dug up some dirt from the ground.
Then she returned to the armored vehicle, locked the doors, and slipped into her space.
She hooked up the water tankers to the villa’s tap and started filling them. To speed things up, she opened every faucet in every bathroom on each floor.
She even mixed in some of the dirt she’d just dug up, so the water wouldn’t be too pure—otherwise, it wouldn’t look like water from an ordinary reservoir.
Once everything was done and she’d checked that all the hoses were secure, An Nan exited her space.
She was just about to drive home when she suddenly remembered the jade necklace she always wore around her neck.
She reached for it—sure enough, it was gone.
An Nan was silent for a moment.
She’d been careless.
She glanced at the colorless glassy jade bangle on her wrist and noticed a new streak of green.
Looks like her space had leveled up quite a bit!
Well, the necklace was meant to be used for upgrading the space sooner or later. Since there was no one around, this was a good chance to test the upgrade.
She got out of the car and tested her blink distance, and was surprised to find it had jumped from sixty-five meters all the way to a hundred meters.
No wonder—it was an eighty-million-yuan piece!
Even if she gathered all the jade in the city, it wouldn’t have upgraded her space this much.
Gu Zhiyu really was her lucky star—every time she met him, something good happened.
In a great mood, An Nan started humming as she drove home.
Meanwhile, Long had retrieved the necklace for An Nan, and Gu Zhiyu had finished packing up.
The trunk and passenger seat of his car were piled high with supplies.
If he didn’t have to save the back seat for the dog, he’d have filled the whole car.
Once everything was packed, he called out, “Fugui, let’s go home.”
At that moment, Fugui was sprawled lazily on a plush, luxurious sofa. He glanced at Gu Zhiyu, then turned away and flopped back down.
Gu Zhiyu raised an eyebrow. “Don’t pretend you didn’t hear me.”
Fugui didn’t react.
The house was so big, the sofa so soft—why shouldn’t he lounge a bit longer?
Unlike the dog, Gu Zhiyu was eager to get home.
He thought for a moment. “Fugui, you don’t want your owner anymore?”
At that, the dog immediately perked up.
Seeing this, Gu Zhiyu added, “I’m heading back. When I see An Nan, I’ll tell her you ran away from home.”
With that, he strolled slowly toward the door.
Fugui shot up and dashed after him.
“Woof woof woof! Woof woof woof woof!”
Gu Zhiyu chuckled and led the dog to the car.
There were no other vehicles on the road, so he drove fast and was soon back at the apartment complex.
The market at the entrance was as lively as ever. Gu Zhiyu honked as he drove forward.
People moved aside to let the car through. Just as he was about to enter the complex, a shifty-eyed man suddenly threw himself against the front of the Hummer and collapsed.
“Ow!”
“Ow, that hurts! You hit me!”
There were a lot of people at the gate, and Gu Zhiyu had been driving very slowly. He knew perfectly well whether he’d hit anyone or not.
This was clearly a scam.
Before he could react, another man came over, hands on his hips, shouting, “Hey, what kind of driving is that? Didn’t you see you hit someone? Why aren’t you getting out of the car?”
“Hurry up and give him some compensation grain!”
Gu Zhiyu narrowed his eyes.
So they were working together.
This was the apocalypse—there were no laws anymore. Where did these people get the guts to try a scam like this?
What were they relying on?
His kindness?
Gu Zhiyu didn’t get out of the car or roll down the window.
He waited silently for half a minute.
The men kept shouting.
He glanced at his watch. “I gave you your chance.”
Then he slammed on the gas, driving straight over the man lying in front of the car.
The man on the ground went silent instantly.
The onlookers quickly backed away.
The accomplice froze, then turned and ran.
He’d only taken a couple of steps when Gu Zhiyu spun the wheel, chased him down, and sent him flying.
He stopped to check—the man’s shoe had flown off.
He was definitely done for.
Gu Zhiyu turned the car around and headed home.
He parked under Building 6, let the dog out, told it to guard the car, and started carrying supplies upstairs, one trip at a time.
Fugui had been trained with An Nan, and Gu Zhiyu knew exactly how strong he was—taking down a few knife-wielding thugs would be no problem.
A dog and a car parked downstairs drew plenty of attention from neighbors.
But everyone in the complex knew this ugly dog was the demon queen’s beloved pet. They might sneak a peek, but no one dared approach.
Occasionally, someone bold would come down, hoping to try their luck, only to be scared stiff by Fugui’s gaping jaws and low growls.
Terrifying—it was like a short-haired Tibetan mastiff!
With the dog on guard, Gu Zhiyu finished moving the supplies without a hitch. He was about to take the dog and park the car underground when a female voice called out behind him:
“Hey handsome, is this your dog? It’s so cute!”"
