Chapter 227: The Dog Belongs to My Wife

Natural Disasters and the End of the World, She Went Crazy After Stocking Up on Supplies

Gu Zhiyu frowned, growing a bit impatient.

Why were there so many obstacles to getting home today?

If he didn’t get upstairs and start cooking soon, Annan would come back to an empty stomach.

He turned around and spotted a woman in a white dress, painfully thin.

Before the apocalypse, she’d been considered a rare beauty—delicate features, big eyes—but now she was so skinny that, while still beautiful, she looked a bit like a ghost from a horror movie.

This “ghost”—no, woman—looked at him shyly and asked,

“Hey, handsome, why aren’t you saying anything?”

Fugui, the dog, stared at her warily, letting out a low growl.

The woman took half a step back, a flicker of fear in her eyes.

She was also a resident of this complex, so of course she knew that the “she-devil” and her dog were not to be messed with.

But she was truly out of food and water.

She’d heard all about this rich fool flying in by helicopter again and again to see the she-devil.

In her experience, lovesick men like this were always soft-hearted and easy to manipulate.

She’d known plenty of rich men before the apocalypse—she knew exactly what worked on them.

Fortune favors the bold. If she could win this man over, she’d never have to worry about going hungry again.

Now that the she-devil wasn’t by his side, she couldn’t let this chance slip by.

She batted her big eyes and said sweetly, “Hey, handsome?”

Under her hopeful gaze, Gu Zhiyu finally spoke.

“This is my wife’s dog. If you like it so much, go ahead and pet it.”

“Huh?”

Pet the dog?

She didn’t dare! The woman instinctively took another step back.

Gu Zhiyu let out a cold laugh. “Didn’t you say it was cute? Go on, pet it.”

Trying to use the dog as an excuse to strike up a conversation? That trick was ancient.

If he could fall for that, he’d have lived all these years for nothing.

The woman was stuck, looking awkward. “Your dog doesn’t bite, does it?”

Gu Zhiyu: “It does.”

Woman: …

She forced a smile. “Then maybe I’d better not. Don’t want to upset the dog.”

Gu Zhiyu shot her a cold glance, then prepared to leave with the dog.

The woman’s face turned pale. She quickly reached out, trying to grab his arm.

She couldn’t let him just walk away—who knew when she’d get another chance to catch him alone?

Gu Zhiyu’s brow furrowed as he shook her off quickly. “You’re covered in germs. Don’t touch me.”

The woman’s expression turned embarrassed.

How could he be so bluntly dismissive? Didn’t he know how to treat a lady?

She looked down at her dress.

It was her best outfit, pure and alluring, usually a surefire way to attract men. Why wasn’t it working today?

Unwilling to give up, she started, “Hey, handsome, you—”

Before she could finish, Gu Zhiyu was already ushering the dog into the car and getting into the driver’s seat himself.

Seeing she still wanted to reach out, Gu Zhiyu said impatiently,

“The dog belongs to my wife. If you like it so much, wait till she’s back and visit her yourself.”

He looked at her expressionlessly. “My wife will be sure to give you a proper ‘welcome.’”

With that, he drove off, leaving the woman standing there, face ashen.

Upstairs, the neighbors who’d witnessed the scene were all gossiping.

“That woman’s got guts, trying to steal the she-devil’s man.”

“High risk, high reward! If that rich guy can afford helicopter fuel, he’s definitely got food and water.”

“Even if she succeeds, isn’t she afraid the she-devil will come after her? She’ll be skinned alive!”

“If she does succeed, she’ll just fly off with the rich guy in his helicopter. The she-devil wouldn’t be able to find her.”

“Hearing you say that, I’m tempted myself.”

“Forget it, didn’t you see that guy didn’t even flinch?!”

“True, he’s really loyal—not giving the beauty a single chance.”

“Rich families produce devoted men! The she-devil’s amazing, already got the young master wrapped around her finger.”

Meanwhile, the so-called “she-devil” was driving her armored vehicle, finally nearing home.

Passing by Qian’ao Complex, she spotted a familiar figure with a backpack walking ahead.

It was the man who’d sold her the snowmobile.

What a coincidence?

Then again, it made sense—if he could set up a stall at the market, he probably lived nearby.

It was getting dark.

The man had clearly been walking all day to get back.

Annan glanced at him, about to drive over, when suddenly three men with knives rushed out.

“That’s him! I heard him say yesterday he was going out to trade!”

“His backpack’s heavy—must be full of food!”

“He’s probably got more than the last guy. Get him!”

A robbery.

The man’s face turned green as he pulled out a fruit knife and fought back desperately.

Annan had planned to just drive by—after all, this kind of thing happened all the time in the apocalypse.

But after a moment’s thought, she stopped the car.

For the sake of the fur coat and snowmobile, she’d help him out.

It was no trouble.

She stepped on the gas and charged straight at the group.

The man, surrounded and swinging his little knife in despair, suddenly heard a vehicle approaching.

Looking up, he saw the armored car from that morning.

Delighted, he rolled out of the way.

The three robbers tried to dodge too, but Annan chased them down.

After a while, seeing the three robbers weren’t moving, Annan rolled down her window. “You okay?”

The man scrambled over. “Thank you, beautiful! You saved my life! Thank you so much!”

Annan smiled. “No big deal.”

She was in a good mood today—successful trades, and her space had just upgraded. Since fate had brought them together again, she was happy to help.

With that, she rolled up the window and drove off.

The man stared after the armored car, dazed for a few seconds before bowing deeply.

He felt guilty for ever thinking she was an easy mark.

She’d taken a bunch of useless junk from him and given him over a month’s worth of food, and now she’d saved his life from bandits.

She was a true saint!

He carefully adjusted his backpack, then searched the three robbers’ bodies, returning to Qian’ao Complex loaded with loot.

1402.

When Annan got home, Fugui and Lord Rabbit greeted her excitedly.

She took off her shoes and noticed a lot more supplies in the living room.

The house was filled with the aroma of spicy hot pot—Gu Zhiyu was in the kitchen washing vegetables and slicing sweet potatoes.

She walked over curiously. “Why do we have so many more supplies at home?”

Gu Zhiyu smiled at her. “I went back to Banshan today.”

Annan understood.

He was keeping his promise and had brought back double the supplies.

“You really didn’t have to go to all that trouble,” she said.

After all, now that they were together, there was no need to keep such strict accounts."
