Chapter 238: Old Grudges of the Bai Family
Natural Disasters and the End of the World, She Went Crazy After Stocking Up on Supplies
An Nan turned her head and saw two women dressed in Chanel suits.
One was about her age, while the other was a woman in her forties or fifties.
When the younger woman saw An Nan’s face, she cried out in surprise,
“An Nan? It’s actually you!”
Hearing her own name, An Nan realized they must be old acquaintances. But after studying the woman for a while, she still couldn’t recall who she was.
The younger woman did look somewhat familiar, but An Nan couldn’t remember her name.
Seeing this, the girl was furious. “An Nan, are you ignoring me again?!”
The older woman quickly put an arm around her daughter to comfort her. “Don’t get upset, sweetheart.”
Then she turned to An Nan. “An Nan, I can’t believe you have the nerve to come back here after being kicked out by the An family!”
From their words, An Nan could tell they weren’t here with good intentions, so she simply ignored them and focused on repairing the villa’s exterior wall.
Although this villa hadn’t suffered as much damage as the one at Maple Grove, there were still traces of acid rain erosion on the walls.
So An Nan carefully mixed the cement and filled in the cracks with great care.
After all, she would be living here for some time. The house didn’t need to look pretty, but it had to be safe and warm.
Seeing that she and her mother were being completely ignored, the younger woman was so angry her hands shook.
She pointed at An Nan and demanded, “How did you even get in here? What right do you have to shamelessly stay here?! I, Bai Manxue, have never seen anyone as brazen as you!”
Hearing the name Bai Manxue, An Nan finally remembered a little.
She was the daughter of the Bai family, their next-door neighbors. They’d played together as children since they were about the same age.
But after Bai Manxue stole a bracelet An Nan cherished, they’d stopped seeing each other.
An Nan glanced at her with a half-smile, finally responding,
“So it’s you! Little thief Bai. It’s been years—I almost didn’t recognize you.”
Bai Manxue was furious. “You!!”
Her mother quickly supported her and scolded An Nan, “What nonsense are you spouting? How uncivilized!”
An Nan turned to her. “Mrs. Bai, you’re the one who brought your daughter here to yell at someone else’s house. Who’s really being uncivilized?”
Mrs. Bai glared at her. “Who said this is your house? This is clearly an empty property belonging to the Li family! You’re the An family’s daughter, and you were kicked out over two years ago!”
An Nan couldn’t be bothered to argue and kept working on the wall.
Bai Manxue, with nowhere to vent her anger, stomped her foot and demanded,
“How is it that after all these years, you’re still so damned arrogant? Tell me! How did you get in here?”
She had old grudges with An Nan.
They’d gone to the same elementary school and both lived on the hillside, so they often played together as children.
But over time, she grew increasingly resentful.
An Nan was more popular, and her family’s business was more successful than the Bai family’s.
An Nan’s mother was involved in running the company, while her own mother only played mahjong. Every time her mother visited the An family with the other ladies, she’d come home in a foul mood.
In short, An Nan was like a mountain pressing down on her in every way.
Then one time, when Bai Manxue visited An Nan’s house, she saw An Nan’s father give her a globally limited-edition bracelet—the very one Bai Manxue had wanted but couldn’t get.
Jealous, she secretly took An Nan’s new bracelet home.
Of course, it didn’t take long for the theft to be discovered.
After that, she was never invited to An Nan’s house again, and her mother became the butt of jokes among the ladies’ circle.
This went on for years, until Bai Manxue went abroad to study, and life finally got a little better.
When she returned after graduation, her mother told her that An Nan’s mother had passed away and An Nan had been kicked out of her family.
She couldn’t have been happier.
Now, seeing this hated An Nan return, Bai Manxue was filled with resistance.
She spat, “Even your own father doesn’t want you, An Nan! That just shows how unbearable you are! How do you even have the face to come back?!”
An Nan’s hand paused as she scrubbed the wall.
She turned to look Bai Manxue straight in the eye. “What did I do wrong? Why shouldn’t I come back?”
After a beat, she added meaningfully, “At least I never stole from anyone.”
“You!!” Bai Manxue was so enraged at having her sore spot poked that she gritted her teeth.
Mrs. Bai quickly chimed in, “You were kicked out of the hillside. What right do you have to come back? Who gave you permission?”
An Nan sneered, “I was only forced out of the An family by An Xingye. What, does the entire hillside belong to the An family now?”
Mrs. Bai was momentarily speechless. “Even if it doesn’t, it still belongs to all of us homeowners! Without our permission, you can’t come in, let alone move into someone else’s house!”
An Nan put down her scraper, went inside, and came back out with an assault rifle.
She leveled the gun at the mother and daughter. “So, which one of you homeowners objects?”
She knew it wasn’t just these two watching—others in the villas were surely observing as well.
She needed to make a statement now to avoid endless trouble later.
Seeing An Nan with a gun, Bai Manxue’s face went pale and she immediately hid behind her mother.
“Mom, she has a gun!”
Mrs. Bai snorted. “It’s just a replica! What’s the big deal? Your dad has one in his study, too.”
Bai Manxue shrank back. “Are you sure it’s a replica? It looks pretty real to me…”
Mrs. Bai said, “She’s just a little girl—how could she get her hands on an assault rifle? Even when her mother was alive, their family didn’t have guns!”
An Nan couldn’t be bothered to argue. She switched the rifle to single-shot mode and pulled the trigger.
Bang! Bang!
Each woman took a bullet to the shoulder.
“Aaaahhh!”
Their screams echoed through the villa district.
An Nan barked, “Shut up!”
The two women immediately fell silent, trembling.
An Nan pointed at them. “You—walk up the main road. You—walk down. As you go, shout ‘I’ll never meddle in other people’s business again.’ Got it?”
Clutching their wounds, the mother and daughter looked at each other in confusion.
What did this mean?
Was she making them parade in shame?
Using them as an example?
But they didn’t dare question it. With the gun in An Nan’s hands, their lives were at her mercy.
Mrs. Bai was the first to lower her head. “Just put the gun down. Don’t get excited. We’ll do as you say…”
Bai Manxue nodded frantically.
An Nan gave a cold laugh. “If either of you dares run home, I’ll come over and gun down your whole family.”
Both women shivered violently.
Now, when they looked at An Nan, there was even more fear in their eyes.
Soon, a bizarre scene unfolded in the villa district—one never seen before."
