Chapter 111: The Gunshot

Natural Disasters and the End of the World

Chu Peipei looked tense. “An Nan, could it be someone setting off firecrackers?”

An Nan shook her head. “Doesn’t sound like it.”

Who would be in the mood to play with firecrackers in the middle of a disaster?

Chu Peipei’s eyes widened. “Then could it really be… gunshots?!”

She’d only ever heard that sound in TV dramas. She couldn’t be sure, but she really couldn’t think of any other explanation.

When she saw An Nan nod, she nervously clenched her fists.

In the chaos of the apocalypse, with no morals or laws to restrain people, she’d only managed to avoid being bullied so far thanks to the nail gun Nan Nan had given her and her own fierce determination.

But if she had to face a real gun—such an overwhelming weapon—she wouldn’t stand a chance.

Even someone as skilled as Nan Nan couldn’t fight bullets with bare hands!

Chu Peipei was deeply worried. “Nan Nan, how could there be a gun in our neighborhood?”

An Nan thought for a moment, frowning. “I don’t know either.”

She really didn’t. In her previous life, there had never been gunshots in the neighborhood.

Could it be that her rebirth had triggered some kind of butterfly effect?

So far, the timing and nature of the disaster seemed the same as last time.

But the fates of many people had changed.

For example, Bai Wenbin and Qian Ying’er, who died early; the neighbor she’d killed with a chainsaw; Zhao Ping’an, who used to be a shut-in but was now very active; Chu Peipei, who had survived this time; Aunt Hu, whose leg was now healed…

Because of her rebirth, many things and people had changed, setting off a chain reaction.

She didn’t know the exact reason, but one thing was certain: this time, someone in the neighborhood had gotten their hands on a gun.

An Nan had practiced with all kinds of firearms at the manor, and she could tell at once that today’s sound was a handgun.

She wasn’t afraid. No matter how powerful a handgun was, could it beat her Uzi submachine gun or assault rifle?

Still, since someone in the neighborhood had a firearm, she needed to be cautious.

If someone caught her off guard and shot her in the back, that would be dangerous.

But as long as she found out who had the gun, that person would be no match for her.

If it came down to firepower, who in the whole of Linbei City could beat her?

Chu Peipei frowned. “I just wish we knew whose hands the gun is in…”

An Nan said, “No rush. Now that they have a gun, it’s only a matter of time before they show themselves in the neighborhood.”

Unlike her, most of the neighbors didn’t have enough supplies to live comfortably and hide a gun just for self-defense.

Whoever had the gun would most likely use it openly to benefit themselves.

Chu Peipei nodded. “You’re right. Anyway, we’re not leaving the house. Let’s just wait and see.”

1302.

Sun Peng lay sprawled on the bed, gasping for breath.

After a while, he got up and kicked the man lying in a pool of blood, making sure he wasn’t breathing before letting out a long sigh of relief.

He glanced at the cold, black gun in his hand.

Wang Xiaoyu was terrified beside him. “Peng—Peng-ge, are you okay?”

Sun Peng sneered. “I’m fine.”

Thank goodness he’d hidden sharp weapons in every corner of the house, or he’d probably be dead now.

The man was a customer who’d come for sex. But he wasn’t a regular—Sun Peng had intercepted him outside Bai Wenbin’s apartment on the 8th floor.

During the recent 60-degree heatwave, no one dared go out, and business had suffered. As soon as the temperature dropped a bit, he immediately went out to look for customers.

He’d just reached the 8th floor when he saw this man, who called himself Brother Zhang, loitering outside Bai Wenbin’s door.

Sun Peng’s eyes lit up.

Everyone in the building knew what those siblings did for a living.

This guy must be here for some fun.

He went right up. “Looking for Bai Wenbin and Qian Ying’er? Those two have been missing for a while. If you’re looking for some fun, come to my place. The girls at my place are way better than Qian Ying’er!”

He successfully lured the “customer” back to his apartment.

This Brother Zhang was the same pervert who had tormented the Bai siblings before.

Sun Peng only guessed he was looking for fun, but didn’t know about his twisted tastes.

Not long after they entered, Wang Xiaoyu was already running naked into the living room, covered in bruises.

“Peng-ge! Save me!”

Ever since Sun Peng’s last talk with Wang Xiaoyu, she’d been obediently entertaining customers.

But now she was running out so miserably, and covered in injuries.

Sun Peng immediately understood—this guy was a real pervert.

He didn’t really care about Wang Xiaoyu, but if she got ruined, it would affect his business.

He was relying on her to earn supplies.

So he hurried over to try to smooth things over.

Brother Zhang was already frustrated from not finding Bai Wenbin.

This woman wasn’t as skilled as Xiao Bai, and now she wasn’t even cooperating! And now even this man was getting in his way! Brother Zhang exploded with rage and pulled out a handgun.

It was a new weapon he’d acquired—not exactly well-made, since it came from a private workshop, but just showing it was enough to make people obey.

Sure enough, Sun Peng immediately cowered, grinning as he pushed Wang Xiaoyu toward him.

Wang Xiaoyu didn’t dare say anything more, trembling as she tried to follow him back to the bedroom.

But suddenly, pervert Brother Zhang set his sights on Sun Peng.

“You! You come in with me too.”

After what happened with Bai Wenbin, he’d discovered a new world—he liked playing with men even more.

Wang Xiaoyu was attractive, but something was missing. Sun Peng was average-looking, but at least he was a man. With the lights off, looks didn’t matter.

Sun Peng was stunned.

He’d never thought of sacrificing himself for supplies!

But with Brother Zhang pointing a cold gun at him, he had no choice but to reluctantly head into the bedroom.

As soon as they entered, Brother Zhang shoved him onto the bed, holding the gun in one hand and groping him with the other.

Gritting his teeth, Sun Peng waited for his chance. When Brother Zhang wasn’t paying attention, he pulled out a knife hidden in the bed seam and stabbed it hard into the man’s gun hand.

Brother Zhang cried out in pain, loosening his grip on the gun.

Sun Peng seized the opportunity, snatched the gun, and immediately pulled the trigger.

Brother Zhang’s eyes widened as he collapsed.

He never expected that the weapon he’d brought for self-defense would end up taking his life.

Sun Peng let out a long breath. After making sure he was dead, he examined the gun in his hand with satisfaction, grinning widely.

“Who would’ve thought I, Sun Peng, would one day get my hands on something this good!”

Playing with guns was every man’s dream. Not to mention, he’d just used it to take someone out—his confidence soared.

Eyes shining with excitement, he said, “With this, how could I ever worry about supplies again?”"
