Chapter 112: Armed Robbery

Natural Disasters and the End of the World

Wang Xiaoyu shrank back, trying to hide as she stared at Sun Peng’s sinister smile.

Sun Peng looked at her and asked, “Are you scared of me?”

Wang Xiaoyu forced a smile. “Of course not…”

But Sun Peng was dissatisfied. “You should be scared of me!”

As he spoke, he caressed the gun in his hand with care.

With this little beauty in his hands, everyone ought to be afraid of him!

Then he crouched down and searched the corpse, and sure enough, found a spare magazine.

Altogether, there were 14 bullets left in the gun, and 15 more in the spare magazine. That made 29 bullets in total.

As he put away the spare magazine, he said, “Starting tomorrow, you can take a break. We’ll just go door to door and collect food directly!”

Wang Xiaoyu said nervously, “But there are still snakes outside…”

Sun Peng replied, “There are basically no venomous snakes left now. The only ones left are those big king snakes. They just look scary, but they’re nothing to worry about!”

Before he got married, he liked keeping reptiles at home, so he knew a fair bit about different kinds of snakes and their habits.

At first, there were all sorts of snakes in the neighborhood, some of them highly venomous. But today, he’d checked—they were all non-venomous now.

Some quick-witted people had even started catching snakes to eat.

Wang Xiaoyu was still anxious. “But we only have so many bullets. If the neighbors band together and resist, how many people can we really kill?”

Sun Peng sneered. “Resist? Who’d dare be the first to stick their neck out?

Sure, I can’t kill everyone in the complex, but I can kill 29 people! Who would want to be one of those 29?

Besides, as long as you keep your mouth shut, who’s to know how many bullets I really have?”

He shot Wang Xiaoyu a look. “Women—long hair, short on brains!”

Wang Xiaoyu’s expression soured.

If this had been before, she would’ve already lost her temper and snapped at him.

After all, he’d put in a lot of effort buying her gifts before she agreed to be with him.

But lately, his attitude toward her had gotten worse and worse, and now that he had a gun in his hand, she could only swallow her anger and keep quiet.

She even had to force a smile. “You’re right.”

Sun Peng tucked the gun into his waistband, then dragged Zhang the Pervert’s corpse outside and hung it in the most conspicuous spot in the complex as a warning.

The next day, many people saw Zhang’s body hanging high up. His eyes were wide open in death, and there was a bloody hole in his forehead.

As dusk fell, people began to come out in search of supplies, or to catch snakes and cockroaches. Sun Peng finally found his chance to go door to door.

Many people opened their doors, and before they could even step outside, they were staring down the barrel of a gun.

“Hand over all your supplies! Or your whole family dies.”

Everyone had heard the deafening gunshot the night before, and seen the body hung up for all to see. Now, faced with the heavy gun in Sun Peng’s hand, they immediately raised their hands and handed over their things.

After all, you can always find more supplies, but if you lose your life, you lose everything.

Of course, not everyone was willing to just take it lying down.

A burly man who practiced boxing tried to resist, but Sun Peng shot him dead with a single bullet.

The gunshot echoed through the complex once again.

After that, no one dared resist him. Everyone understood that no matter how strong your muscles were, you couldn’t beat a speeding bullet.

There had been nearly five thousand residents in the complex, but after half a year of disasters, only a little over two thousand remained.

With just a gun and twenty-nine bullets, Sun Peng managed to control all two thousand of them.

To improve efficiency, he bought off some neighbors in his building who were on good terms with him, and had them work for him.

These “underlings” collected food for him in his name. They could keep twenty percent of what they collected, but the rest had to be handed over to him.

Sun Peng himself never even had to leave his apartment—food just kept coming to his door.

For a while, the whole complex was gripped by fear. Everyone was resentful, but no one dared fight back.

A group of young people, full of anger, secretly gathered to try to come up with a plan.

“These disasters are already hard enough, and now he’s taking all our supplies. How is that any different from letting us starve to death?!”

“It’s outrageous! We have to unite and fight back against this armed thug!”

“Yeah! Even if he has a gun, how many bullets can it hold? There’s so many of us—he can’t shoot us all!”

“Exactly! There are thousands of us in this complex. How many people does Sun Peng have? Just one gun—if we all rush him, he can’t do a thing!”

The group grew more and more indignant, their blood boiling, as if they could take Sun Peng down at any moment.

Until someone asked, “So… when are we going to make our move?”

The crowd fell silent.

After a long pause, someone said, “Maybe we should try to recruit more allies first?”

“Yeah, there are so many people in the complex. We can’t be the only ones risking our lives while everyone else just sits back and waits for the outcome!”

“Exactly! Why should we be the ones to sacrifice ourselves for everyone else?”

The more they talked, the more unfair it seemed, and they clamored to recruit more residents to join the resistance.

Only two hot-tempered, braver ones wanted to act right away, but with everyone else hesitating, they had nothing more to say.

And so, nothing came of it.

For a long time after, everyone in Maple Forest Estate lived under Sun Peng’s shadow…

When Chu Peipei found out that the guy with the gun was actually Sun Peng, her face immediately darkened.

She’d already been no match for him before, and now he’d gotten his hands on a pistol!

That pistol was overwhelming compared to her boning knife and nail gun!

An Nan, on the other hand, looked much calmer.

Ever since she’d finished her regimen, she felt full of energy and in great spirits.

With a healthy flush to her cheeks, she said to Chu Peipei, “Don’t worry, he can’t get up to the 14th floor.”

If Sun Peng dared to come, she’d show him what real firepower was!

Chu Peipei frowned. “It’s strange, though. Sun Peng’s been going door to door robbing people, but he’s never come to us. Why not?”

After all, they lived just one floor apart—shouldn’t they be even more convenient targets?

An Nan scoffed, “Sun Peng is extremely cautious—almost to the point of being cowardly.

He’s suffered at my hands before, and he knows there are traps on the 14th and 15th floors. As long as we don’t go out and make ourselves targets, he won’t come knocking.”

Even though Sun Peng had a gun, he couldn’t shoot them through her armored door.

There were enough supplies in the complex for him to live comfortably. He was smart—he wouldn’t come upstairs looking for trouble.

If he got hurt by one of their traps, that pistol would just end up in someone else’s hands.

Chu Peipei frowned. “But we can’t just hide in our apartment forever, can we?”

An Nan raised an eyebrow. “Who said we’re going to hide?”"
