Chapter 120: I’m Heading Out

Natural Disasters and the End of the World

“Um… Bodhisattva, could we maybe get back the stuff Sun Peng stole from our house? Not much! Just three cans and two jin of millet…”

“Yes, yes, we don’t want much, just our own share. Please, Bodhisattva, have mercy.”

At this point, quite a few people from the surrounding buildings mustered up the courage to come downstairs.

But from Building Six, where An Nan lived, not a single soul dared to show their face.

“Heroine, my supplies were stolen too—ten jin of snake meat and five cans.”

“And mine! He took a whole case of water from me!”

“Bodhisattva, I beg you, please let us take back our own things!”

An Nan watched as the crowd grew larger and larger, and couldn’t help but sneer.

Call me a demoness in private, but now you’re all calling me Bodhisattva?

She shouted mercilessly, “Yours? Mine? These are supplies I confiscated from criminals! If you want food, go find it yourselves.”

Someone protested, unwilling to give up: “But Sun Peng stole these from us, then they were taken from him, and now you have them… Miss, these really are our things.”

An Nan rolled her eyes. “What, so if I buy a bowl of beef noodles and take it home, the cattle farmer can come and demand I give the beef back?”

The man was furious. “You—how can you be so unreasonable? These supplies clearly—”

An Nan fixed him with a stare. “Who are you calling unreasonable?”

He immediately calmed down, forcing a smile. “Sorry, I misspoke!”

As he spoke, he slapped himself hard across the face several times.

An Nan swept her gaze over the crowd and said coldly:

“Do I look easier to deal with than those thugs collecting protection food?”

The crowd instantly fell silent.

The bodies of those ‘protection collectors’ were still piled on the ground! If you wanted ruthless, this lady was no less than those criminals.

They were only trying to play on her sympathy because she was young and a woman, hoping she’d give the food back.

As if reading their minds, An Nan sneered:

“What, you didn’t dare say a word when facing Sun Peng and those thugs, but now you see a ‘weak woman’ and think you can push me around?”

The corners of everyone’s mouths twitched as they stared at the ground.

Weak woman?

Hell, what kind of ‘weak woman’ guns down over a hundred people with an assault rifle?

“We wouldn’t dare bully you. We’re just begging you, please, let us have our supplies back.”

An Nan: “If you want your stuff, go find Sun Peng and those protection collectors! I’m not your servant or bodyguard!”

With that, she fired a shot into the air.

The deafening sound sent the crowd stumbling backward.

Two of the younger ones were so scared they wet their pants.

An Nan’s voice rang out, full of authority:

“Listen up! I’m going to count to five. If anyone’s still hanging around in front of me, you’ll hand over ten jin of food on the spot! If you can’t, I’ll kill you where you stand!”

“Five… four…”

The crowd was dumbfounded.

What?! Ten jin of food?!

This girl is even more ruthless than Sun Peng!

Even those thugs were more humane than her!!

The crowd scattered like frightened animals.

Before An Nan even finished counting, not a single person was left downstairs.

Some even ran off without their shoes and didn’t dare come back for them.

A while later, Zhao Ping’an and Chu Peipei finally finished moving the supplies.

Both Chu Peipei and Zhao Ping’an’s families already had plenty of stuff, and now their homes were packed to the brim. The rest—all the surplus—was left to An Nan.

Chu Peipei looked blissful. “Nannan, there’s barely any space left in my house! I’m starting to worry if the floor can even hold all this…”

Zhao Ping’an added, “I’ve got two apartments, so there’s plenty of room, but I still need to leave space to raise chickens and rabbits. My mom’s running herself ragged trying to organize everything.”

An Nan chuckled. “Looks like having too much food can be a headache too!”

Her share hadn’t even been brought inside yet—it was all still piled up in the hallway. She’d have to carry it in herself before she could stash it in her space.

Meanwhile, downstairs at Building Six—

People watched as An Nan’s group went back inside, leaving a small pile of supplies on the ground outside.

It was all the stuff they didn’t want: cockroach biscuits, snake meat, moldy rice, and so on.

But the other residents didn’t mind at all—they rushed out, scrambling to haul as much as they could back home.

No one cared anymore about who’d lost how much food before. Now it was every man for himself—grab as much as you can, even if it means taking someone else’s share!

Fights broke out as people tried to snatch more food.

It was nearly noon, and the temperature was already 55°C (131°F).

Unlike An Nan’s group, these people didn’t have temperature-regulating suits. Under the blazing sun, carrying supplies and fighting at the same time, a bunch of them soon collapsed.

By the time residents from farther away arrived, there wasn’t a scrap of food left under Building Six.

They looked at the ground, now littered only with corpses, and cursed those who’d been quicker to grab supplies.

“Selfish bastards! Didn’t even leave me a crumb!”

Some people even eyed the corpses and blood, swallowing hard…

14th Floor.

Chu Peipei handed the submachine gun back to An Nan. “Nannan, here’s your gun.”

An Nan took it, thought for a moment, and handed her the assault rifle instead.

Chu Peipei was surprised. “Nannan, what are you—?”

An Nan said, “I’m going out for a while. You two are in charge of guarding the house. You’ll need something stronger to defend yourselves.”

She turned to Zhao Ping’an. “I’ve got another one. I’ll give it to you in a bit.”

Zhao Ping’an was surprised too. “I get one as well?”

An Nan nodded.

Zhao Ping’an was trustworthy. He could have stayed safe in his heavily fortified home, but he’d risked his life to come down and help them.

“Nannan, where are you going? Will you be safe?”

“Idol, how long will you be gone? Let me go with you!”

An Nan looked at them, but didn’t explain much. She just said,

“I have some personal business to take care of. Not sure how long it’ll take. You two just stay here and guard the house.”

In truth, she was going to eliminate a hidden threat.

In her previous life, Er Kui had been killed by a man from the Qian’ao community—a guy who used homemade explosives to take out Er Kui’s whole gang.

But Er Kui had an older brother, the second-in-command of a large private base.

The brothers didn’t always see eye to eye and ran their own operations, but deep down, they were close.

After his brother died, the older one got word and led a massacre to avenge him, wiping out the entire Qian’ao community.

In this life, his brother would surely come seeking revenge for Er Kui.

Armed with foreknowledge, An Nan planned to strike first, before he even realized what had happened.

With communication down in the apocalypse and the brothers living apart, An Nan remembered that the older brother only found out and came for revenge more than a month after Er Kui’s death.

She could easily take him out before he even heard the news, nipping the threat in the bud."
