Chapter 65: Lovestruck Fugui

Natural Disasters and the End of the World

Busted!

An Nan immediately felt a little awkward. She coughed and looked away.

Chu Peipei and Zhao Ping’an were also staring wide-eyed at the man, still in a daze.

Only Long Cong’an seemed unfazed—he was already used to his boss’s striking looks. He replied to An Nan as if nothing was amiss:

“Thanks to you saving me in time, I’m totally fine now!”

An Nan nodded, about to say something.

Just then, something unexpected happened.

Fugui, who had been behaving himself all along, suddenly leapt onto Long Cong’an’s boat.

With a push of his little legs, he landed squarely on the other boat—but went face-first, skidding to a stop with his doggy snout.

He didn’t seem to feel any pain at all. Shaking his head, he scrambled up and excitedly bounded toward the man lounging there.

Then… he buried his head right in the man’s arms.

Fugui’s dog food hadn’t been wasted—he was a solid, chunky little thing.

Gu Zhiyu grunted as Fugui crashed into him.

He stared blankly at the little creature in his arms, clearly not expecting the pup to charge at him like that.

But Fugui didn’t care if he was being presumptuous.

Squinting his eyes, he nuzzled his head all over Gu Zhiyu’s chest, paws scrabbling excitedly, tail wagging like mad.

……

Everyone was stunned by Fugui’s sudden display.

An Nan was still holding the other end of the leash, frozen in place.

Since she’d adopted Fugui, she’d never seen him so enthusiastic about anyone.

Could dogs really judge people by their looks too??

Fugui’s big eyes sparkled as he gazed at the man, whining and whimpering for attention.

If you want to know what a lapdog looks like—this is it.

Gu Zhiyu couldn’t help but laugh. He picked Fugui up by the armpits, looking into his eyes:

“Little guy, what are you up to?”

Fugui’s eyes widened, tail wagging even harder.

A string of drool slowly dripped from his mouth…

Gu Zhiyu: …

Long Cong’an: …

Chu Peipei: …

Zhao Ping’an: …

An Nan: …How embarrassing!!

“An! Fu! Gui! Get back here!”

An Nan’s voice now carried a hint of anger.

Fugui immediately wriggled free from Gu Zhiyu’s hands and ran back toward his owner.

After a couple steps, he looked back longingly.

Alas, you can’t have both a handsome guy and your owner.

Fugui jumped back onto An Nan’s boat, looking dejected.

Long Cong’an, watching Fugui’s expressive little face, couldn’t help but twitch his lips:

“Uh, benefactor, is this your dog?”

An Nan: …

I don’t want to admit it!

Long Cong’an was quick to read the room and swiftly changed the subject:

“This is my boss, President Gu. President Gu, this is my lifesaver, Miss An Nan.”

Still embarrassed by her lovestruck dog, An Nan nodded awkwardly.

The man, who had been sitting still, now stood up calmly.

He walked to the bow and extended his hand to An Nan.

“Gu Zhiyu.”

His hand was pale and slender, with neatly trimmed nails.

An Nan instinctively shook it.

“An Nan.”

Their hands touched lightly, then let go.

Gu Zhiyu glanced down at Fugui by her feet and chuckled softly. “Your dog is very cute.”

His voice was low and magnetic.

“Woof woof woof!” Fugui barked excitedly again.

Fugui! My name is An Fugui!

An Nan gritted her teeth.

This seductive demon—how does he look anything like a CEO?

Having been single all her life, this was the first time An Nan truly felt the power of someone’s looks.

She couldn’t help but think: If only I had a face like that. At least before doing something shady, I could stun my opponent for five seconds.

After the introductions, An Nan urged Long Cong’an to hurry up and exchange supplies.

She just wanted to finish up and go home.

She really didn’t like how out of control today had felt.

She tied Fugui securely to the engine, and everyone started moving the crocodile meat and fertilizer. Besides the fertilizer, Long Cong’an also brought some soil for Chu Peipei to grow vegetables, as promised.

Long Cong’an was injured, but President Gu didn’t put on any airs—he pitched in to help carry supplies.

As the two groups crossed paths, An Nan noticed something bulging at Gu Zhiyu’s waist, hidden under his clothes.

She couldn’t help but stare for a couple seconds.

Sensing her gaze, Gu Zhiyu raised an eyebrow and glanced at her with his fox-like eyes.

An Nan quickly looked away.

She thought to herself: Judging by the shape and size, that’s probably a handgun.

She kept working, but her guard went up.

She’d thought she was the only one carrying heat, but here, after just the first disaster, she’d already run into another armed person.

This was Huaguo—guns and ammo weren’t supposed to be so common, were they?

But he could wear his openly at his waist, while she had to keep hers hidden away in her space.

After all, hers wasn’t exactly acquired legally. It wouldn’t do to flaunt it. If that mysterious big shot ever found out and came after her, she’d be in trouble.

She’d cleaned out his stash and his shop, after all.

As she moved supplies, An Nan thought to herself:

It’s only been a little over three months since the disaster. That big shot must still be alive.

Better to keep a low profile.

No big deal. Just wait it out. With disasters coming one after another, he’ll be dead sooner or later.

He can’t last much longer.

“Achoo!”

Gu Zhiyu suddenly sneezed nearby.

An Nan, carrying supplies past him, wrinkled her nose and edged away.

Is he catching a cold?

Better not pass it to me.

With everyone pitching in, the exchange was done quickly.

Long Cong’an reluctantly said goodbye:

“Benefactor, where do you live? Will we have a chance to meet again?”

Of course An Nan wasn’t about to reveal her address:

“No worries. If fate wills it, we’ll meet again.”

Long Cong’an nodded. “You’re right. Well, until next time! I wish you all the best!”

An Nan: “You too.”

With their supplies in hand, An Nan’s group hurried off.

Watching them go, Long Cong’an couldn’t help but sigh:

“They say dogs resemble their owners. Our benefactor looks so cool and aloof, but her dog is so enthusiastic…”

Gu Zhiyu said nothing, lounging in the boat, his long fingers tapping rhythmically on the side.

“President Gu, where to next?”

“Let’s just look around.”

“Okay.”

As Long Cong’an started the boat, he grumbled to himself: Married folks and singles really are different.

He just wanted to hurry home to his wife and kid.

His wife was home alone with the baby, tending the garden—it must be exhausting…

Meanwhile, President Gu was all alone, not even wanting to go home.

Well, what’s the point of going back to that cold, empty mansion?

Not even anyone to talk to.

So pitiful! I’ll keep him company.

Gu Zhiyu had no idea his assistant had just crowned him the world’s most pitiful man in his mind.

He lounged comfortably in the boat, watching the scenery drift by.

Not long after leaving Jiangbei District, the once-deserted waters suddenly became lively."
