Chapter 140: Chapter 140: White Steamed Buns
Reborn in the 1980s Becoming the Group's Darling Little Lucky Treasure
“I think this thing is interesting, sure, but you need to meet the right buyer for it to sell,” Xu Shuhua said thoughtfully. “Old Four, tomorrow you and Jianguo go to the county town and check out that antique street. If it works out, great. If not, just go back to the spot where we used to set up our stall.”
Xu Shuhua’s idea was a good one—aggressive if needed, but with a fallback plan. She was well prepared either way.
Yu Hai and Gu Jianguo both nodded in agreement.
Gu Jianguo wasn’t much of a talker, but Yu Hai was. He gave Xu Shuhua a thumbs-up. “No wonder people say having an elder at home is like having a treasure! Mom, you really are our family’s treasure!”
Xu Shuhua shot Yu Hai a cool glance. “Old Four, are you saying I’m old?”
Yu Hai stammered, “...Mom, no, that’s not what I meant...” Why wasn’t this going the way he’d imagined?
Xu Shuhua ignored Yu Hai and turned to take Yu Nuannuan from Chen Qiaoqin’s arms. “Now this is our real treasure!”
Yu Hai nodded eagerly. “Right, right! Mom, you’re absolutely right!”
When Gu Jianguo left, he didn’t take the two little stone dogs with him. Instead, he handed them to Yu Nuannuan. “They’re nothing special, just a little something for Nuannuan to play with. Auntie, I’ll head off now. I’ll be back first thing in the morning.”
Yu Nuannuan looked at the two stone puppies in her hands, her eyes full of curiosity.
The moment she saw them, Yu Nuannuan was sure these must have been made by Gu Mo.
As far as she knew, such delicate little trinkets couldn’t be made by any factory at this time. Even if they could, Gu Jianguo and Qin Yuelan wouldn’t have the money to buy them.
So, these could only have come from Gu Mo.
Yu Nuannuan gave one to Xu Shuhua and hugged the other tightly in her small hands, her fair fingers carefully stroking the stone puppy.
It felt pretty nice, but clearly not as smooth as the one she wore around her neck. It must be a matter of quality.
Still, Yu Nuannuan was sure this wasn’t just any ordinary milky-white stone. Even if it was the lowest grade, it was still jade.
Xu Shuhua’s suggestion to try selling them at the antique street was definitely the right call.
Seeing how much Yu Nuannuan liked them, Xu Shuhua simply handed the other stone puppy to Chen Qiaoqin. “Keep it for Nuannuan!”
If Gu Mo made it, it had to be something good. No harm in holding onto it!
The night passed uneventfully. Early the next morning, just as the sky was beginning to lighten, Gu Jianguo showed up at Yu Hai’s place with a basket on his back.
People in the countryside rarely sleep in—they’re up at the first crow of the rooster. Yu Hai was already awake, brushing his teeth and washing his face. When he saw Gu Jianguo arrive, he sped up his routine. “Jianguo, just wait a minute for me!”
Gu Jianguo realized he’d come too early. “Take your time, Fourth Brother, no rush. I’m just a bit early.”
Yu Hai understood how Gu Jianguo felt. He remembered his own excitement the first time he’d gone to the county town with Xu Shuhua to sell things.
After Yu Hai finished washing up, Chen Qiaoqin came out of the kitchen holding two big white steamed buns and two boiled eggs, handing them all to Yu Hai. “Eat on the way!”
In the countryside, white steamed buns were a rare treat—especially ones bigger than Yu Hai’s fist.
When Yu Hai offered one to him, Gu Jianguo quickly waved his hands. “You eat it, Fourth Brother. I’ve already had breakfast!”"
