Chapter 74: Chapter 74: Are These Jujubes Sour?

Reborn in the 1980s Becoming the Group's Darling Little Lucky Treasure

“Oh! Wild jujubes? I’ve had them before.”

Yu Hai looked at Zhang Cuifen’s face, which was full of “I know what’s up,” and couldn’t help shaking his head inwardly: No, you haven’t!

Zhang Cuifen stood up and walked over to Yu Hai. “Are these wild jujubes sour? I actually like sour stuff—it whets my appetite.”

Yu Hai glanced at Zhang Cuifen and answered honestly, “They’re really sour—so sour they’ll make your teeth ache!”

“Hahahaha!” Zhang Cuifen burst out laughing, looking at Yu Hai. “Yu Hai, are you worried I won’t believe you? Of course I trust you! The sourer, the better! Give me a kilo! By the way, how much per kilo?”

How would Yu Hai know the price per kilo? He hadn’t even planned on selling them.

After all, Zhang Cuifen was an old customer and a fellow vendor at the market. Yu Hai really couldn’t bring himself to rip her off, so he handed her a wild jujube. “Why don’t you try one first before you decide? They really are super sour!”

Without hesitation, Zhang Cuifen took it. “I know it’s sour!”

With that, she took a big bite.

Just watching her eat made Yu Hai’s own teeth ache, his mouth filling with saliva.

He watched as the smile faded from Zhang Cuifen’s face, and felt a mix of emotions.

Now he understood how Chen Qiaoqin must have felt that night.

It’s better to share the fun than enjoy it alone!

No explanation could compare to experiencing it firsthand.

After just two chews, Zhang Cuifen spat the jujube out, her whole face scrunched up. “Yu Hai, why is this so sour?!”

“I told you, it’s really sour! So, do you still want to buy some?”

“No way! Not buying!”

Even though she’d been caught off guard by the sourness, Chen Qiaoqin didn’t get angry.

Yu Hai could’ve just sold them to her and let her find out for herself how inedible they were.

But he didn’t. Instead, worried she wouldn’t believe him, he insisted she try one first.

If nothing else, Yu Hai was a decent guy!

While the two of them were talking, someone recognized Yu Hai and came over to ask what he was selling today.

Yu Hai had to repeat his explanation, even pulling Zhang Cuifen over to vouch for him.

Some people believed him and walked away, while others insisted on tasting for themselves.

Either way, not a single jujube was sold. Instead, there was a little pile of spat-out fruit on the ground.

Yu Hai didn’t mind.

After all, if he couldn’t sell them and even the pigs at home wouldn’t eat them, it didn’t matter if people spat them out. At least he’d have less to carry home.

People came and went, and soon Yu Hai was left with nothing to do again.

Glancing up at the sun, Yu Hai started calculating when would be the best time to head home so Xu Shuhua wouldn’t scold him.

Just as he was thinking about it, someone else walked over.

It was an old man, probably in his sixties. He was thin, but looked energetic.

“I heard you’re selling wild jujubes here?”

“That’s right!”

“Are these jujubes sour?”

Yu Hai pointed at the jujubes on the ground. “Just look at all the ones people have spat out—you can guess how sour they are.”

The old man glanced at the ground, but shook his head. “Just looking isn’t enough. I want to try one myself, is that okay?”

“Of course! Try as many as you like.”

Yu Hai said, handing a jujube to the old man.

The old man took it, but didn’t eat it right away. Instead, he examined it for a while before taking a small bite.

Yu Hai thought for sure he’d spit it out, but to his surprise, the old man didn’t. Instead, he savored it carefully.

(That’s the end of this chapter! Still hoping for your votes!)"
