Chapter 126: Investigation
Reborn in the Eighties: Remarrying a Soldier
The cafeteria lady was a bit shocked when she heard this, but she didn’t ask any more questions. After all, working in the cafeteria had taught her to keep her mouth shut and focus on her work.
She took the meal card. “No need to remember this, it’s for three days. I’ll just stamp it here.”
Fu Mingxue: ...?
It wasn’t until the lady handed the card back that Fu Mingxue noticed there were several little boxes on the back of the card, and one of them now had a small red stamp.
Taking her meal, she found a seat and sat down to eat.
Ten minutes later, she was back at the research institute.
People were still working; it wasn’t the end of the workday yet. Even when Fu Mingxue left at eleven, she could see lights on in many parts of the institute, proof that plenty of people were still working late into the night.
She returned to her dorm quite late. As she walked up to the second floor, the hallway was pitch black. Fu Mingxue was glad she’d brought a flashlight—otherwise, she would have tripped for sure.
The washroom was on the left side of the second floor. Fu Mingxue grabbed her clothes and went to take a shower.
The next morning, when she arrived at the washroom, there were already quite a few people there. Some were brushing their teeth, others were washing clothes at the sinks.
“Hey, I haven’t seen you before. Are you new here?” someone asked.
“She lives next door to us!” said the auntie from yesterday, smiling warmly at Fu Mingxue. “Dear, my surname is Li. My husband works at the institute. You’re with the institute too, right? What’s your name?”
“Just call me Fu Mingxue,” she replied, not seeing any reason to hide her name.
“Fu Mingxue, what a lovely name. Did you just arrive at the institute yesterday?” Auntie Li’s question made the others even more curious. They all wanted to know what this young woman did.
“Mm. Auntie, I’m done, so I’ll head out first,” Fu Mingxue said, not having time to chat, nor any interest in satisfying their curiosity.
As soon as she left, the others started gossiping, speculating about who she was.
Fu Mingxue went downstairs to the cafeteria for breakfast. She had no choice—she was only staying here for a few days, and there was no way to cook in her room. She didn’t even have any cooking utensils! Besides, the cafeteria food was pretty good.
After breakfast, she went to the institute to work on her drawings.
Fu Mingxue was fully focused on her work, and Old Ji noticed this. At the same time, he had received Fu Mingxue’s background report.
To be honest, the reason it came so quickly was, first, because she was a college freshman, which made the background check much easier. Second, during the investigation, they discovered she was actually the daughter-in-law of the Qin family in Beijing—Qin Wenhuo’s wife, married less than a month ago.
That’s a seriously impressive background!
After reading Fu Mingxue’s file, Old Ji finally felt at ease. Now, he just wanted to see what she was really capable of.
——
Qin Family
“I never expected Mingxue to be so talented,” Father Qin said, pride shining in his eyes.
His wife had mentioned it in passing before, but he hadn’t thought much of it. The call from Old Ji this afternoon had truly shocked him. He never imagined his youngest daughter-in-law would be so outstanding.
“What’s going on?” the Qin elders asked curiously. Even Lan Qingman perked up to listen.
“Mingxue is at the research institute now. She’s really impressive, that’s all I can say,” Father Qin replied, but his expression made it clear how proud he was.
Mother Qin agreed, “I told you all the other day.”
Back then, no one had paid much attention when she said it.
