Chapter 19: I Don’t Care If I Live or Die, But I’ll Kill You First
Reborn in the Eighties: Remarrying a Soldier
“Ah! Stop! Stop it—!” Fu’s eldest sister-in-law, Yan Hongwei, screamed in pain.
She’d always thought of herself as a respectable person, but today, being beaten in public by that shrew Xu Zifeng, she felt like her dignity had been thrown to the ground and stomped on.
That damned Xu Zifeng.
She had two sons—didn’t this shrew worry her boys would come looking for payback?
But Fu’s mother had put up with this woman for years.
Ever since she’d married into the family, Yan Hongwei had relied on her silver tongue and the old lady’s favoritism to constantly needle and mock her.
She’d taken advantage of them more times than she could count.
Even after her husband died, Yan Hongwei still egged the old lady on to try and snatch her house.
If she hadn’t gone mad back then, she really wouldn’t have been able to hold onto it.
She managed to keep the house, but every month she had to fork over five yuan to support the two old folks.
She’d put up with it for her daughter’s sake.
But now, she couldn’t take it anymore.
She tossed the broom aside and just started slapping—smack, smack, smack—each slap harder than the last.
And it felt damn good.
All the years of swallowing her anger, she let it all out with every slap.
“Yan Hongwei, you shameless bitch! Always scheming to get our money, always stirring up trouble. Did you really think I was that easy to push around?”
“Give your son five hundred? Even if you got on your knees, I wouldn’t give him a single cent! He’s a grown man, not an orphan—how dare he come to his second aunt for money? I’ll slap the shameless right out of your whole family—”
“I put up with you before, but that doesn’t mean I was afraid. Try anything again, and I’ll deal with each of you one by one. Worst case, we all go down together.”
She put all her strength into every slap.
She was used to hard work—she had plenty of strength. By now, Yan Hongwei’s face was swollen like a pig’s head.
Old Lady Fu rushed out. “Xu Zifeng, you damned woman, stop it right now—”
Fu’s mother shot her a glare, full of hostility. “If I don’t hit her, I’ll hit you. I’ve been sick of you, you old hag, for ages. What, are all your other daughters-in-law dead? Why is it only me, a widow, who has to pay you five yuan a month?”
“Let me tell you, if you still want that five yuan a month, you’d better keep your filthy mouth shut. Otherwise, you can forget about getting a single cent.”
“Your son’s dead—why should I, a widow, have to support you?”
“You—you’re turning the world upside down—” Old Lady Fu’s wrinkled face scrunched up even more in anger.
She was furious, wishing she could tear the woman in front of her apart, but she didn’t dare take a single step forward.
The second daughter-in-law had gone mad, actually threatening to hit her mother-in-law—she might really do it.
If the eldest daughter-in-law got hit, so be it, but if she, the old lady, got beaten too, how could she ever show her face again?
“Turning the world upside down? Isn’t it because your whole family is shameless? When there’s trouble, you all hide like turtles, but when there’s money to be had, you come running like dogs, sniffing it out. Truly shameless.”
“I’ll say this right now: from today on, none of you Fu family people better even think about my family’s things. Whether it’s money, the house, or anything else—if anyone tries anything, I’ll fight the whole lot of you to the end.”
After her tirade, Fu’s mother gave Yan Hongwei a hard shove.
Yan Hongwei fell to the ground, howling in pain.
Everything hurt.
She felt like the skin on her face had been split open, and her scalp hurt even more. She reached up to touch it—only to find a handful of hair.
She stared at the hair in her palm, stunned for a couple of seconds, then let out a blood-curdling scream—her hair!
That damned Xu Zifeng had actually ripped out her hair.
Burning with hatred, she lunged at Fu’s mother."
