Chapter 64: A Bet
Reborn in the Eighties: Remarrying a Soldier
With her son-in-law present, Mother Fu couldn’t scold her daughter too much.
“You two chat for a bit, I’ll go out and buy some more groceries.”
There was enough food at home, but now that her son-in-law was here, she wanted to prepare something nicer.
Qin Wenhuo hurriedly stopped her. “Mom, there’s no need to buy anything. Whatever we have at home is fine.”
Mother Fu waved him off. “It’s fine, I just want to take a walk anyway. Even if you weren’t here, I’d still go buy something.”
Watching his mother-in-law leave, Qin Wenhuo suddenly understood—she was deliberately giving them some space!
With Mother Fu gone, only the two of them were left in the courtyard.
Fu Mingxue felt rather awkward and a bit uncomfortable. Looking at the much younger Qin Wenhuo, she couldn’t help but feel like an old cow eating young grass.
She quickly found a topic. “You still haven’t told me why you came back so soon. Didn’t you want to spend more time with the kids?”
Qin Wenhuo could tell his little wife was uneasy.
But he pretended not to notice.
After all, they were married now—and she was the one who’d asked for it.
She needed to get used to and accept his presence.
“They’ve already been picked up by my mom and taken to Beijing. Oh, and Song Yan has been arrested. Bai Chunsheng gave him up. As soon as he got off the train, the police took him away.”
What he didn’t mention was that he’d called the local police station to tip them off about Song Yan’s train schedule.
He just didn’t know about that business with Bai Siqi.
Fu Mingxue was overjoyed.
That bastard Song getting arrested was fantastic news.
In her previous life, she’d been ruined by that pair of scumbags. Now, seeing them get their comeuppance so soon—she really wanted to celebrate.
From now on, those two would have nothing to do with her life.
“How many years do you think he’ll get?”
Qin Wenhuo looked at her. “That depends on the law here.”
Hearing this, Fu Mingxue felt a bit disappointed. Maybe he wouldn’t get that long.
If only it had happened a few days later, Song might have been finished for good.
Qin Wenhuo’s gaze landed on the corners of her mouth that she couldn’t quite hide her smile from.
Then he quietly looked away. “Have you thought about asking Mom to come with us when we leave?”
“Huh? Come with us?” Fu Mingxue was shocked he’d bring this up.
Seeing her wide, surprised eyes, Qin Wenhuo realized just how beautiful they were.
So beautiful they were almost bewitching.
“Yeah. Come with us. After all, she’s living here alone, and you’d worry about her, right?”
Of course Fu Mingxue had thought about it, but her mom simply wouldn’t budge.
“I don’t think it’ll work. I brought it up before, but she can’t leave her job.”
Qin Wenhuo: …
His wife was usually so smart—why wasn’t she getting it now?
Was his mother-in-law really unable to leave her job?
No, she just didn’t want to be without one.
“I’ll talk to her.”
Fu Mingxue was noncommittal.
Her mom could be unbelievably stubborn sometimes.
She’d be surprised if he could persuade her.
After thinking for a moment, she said offhandedly, “If you can talk her into it, I’ll grant you one request.”
Qin Wenhuo narrowed his eyes slightly.
He looked at her intently. “Any request?”
“Any request at all. Well, except murder or arson—I’m not doing that.” She intended to live a long, happy life.
She’d missed out on happiness in her past life, but this time, she was going to enjoy it all.
Qin Wenhuo raised an eyebrow. “I’m a soldier.”
The implication being—how could he possibly ask for something so outrageous?
Fu Mingxue chuckled awkwardly. “Anyway, any request.”
She was so sure he wouldn’t be able to do it."
