Chapter 65: No Way
Reborn in the Eighties: Remarrying a Soldier
But the slap in the face came quickly. After dinner, Qin Wenhuo pulled his mother-in-law aside and talked with her for quite a while.
When they finished, Fu’s mother came back beaming with joy.
Fu Mingxue was baffled. “Mom, what did your wonderful son-in-law say to you? Why are you so happy?”
She was grinning from ear to ear.
“I’m going with you two. We’ll leave on the second day of the New Year.”
“Huh? You—you’re coming with us?” Fu Mingxue was stunned.
She could hardly believe her ears.
She’d tried so hard before and couldn’t budge her mother even a little—her heart was as hard as stone.
But now, just because her son-in-law said something, she agreed? What happened to her backbone? Her resolve?
Where did it all go?
Fu’s mother shot her a look. “What, you don’t want me to come with you?”
“No, I’m just surprised. Really shocked, actually. What did your wonderful son-in-law say to convince you?”
“Oh, nothing much. He just found me a job—cleaning at the elementary school. I never thought I’d ever be part of a school in my life. I guess I’m half an intellectual now.”
Clearly, Fu’s mother was absolutely thrilled with this job.
Fu Mingxue: …?
Is that even possible? And how does sweeping at a school make you half an intellectual?
She slowly turned to look at the man walking over. “When did you find my mom a job? Is it really that easy to get work these days?”
Qin Wenhuo met her beautiful eyes.
He answered slowly, “There just happened to be an opening. If Mom doesn’t mind cleaning, she can take the job.”
Fu’s mother couldn’t wait to chime in, “I don’t mind at all, not one bit!”
Fu Mingxue: …?
Qin Wenhuo glanced at her and added,
“She’ll live with us. My place is big enough, plenty of room. And she can help us look after the kids when she’s free.”
This was just an excuse to keep his mother-in-law from feeling awkward.
Honestly, they didn’t need her to watch the kids at all.
“My son-in-law said the hours are flexible, so I can watch the kids and cook for them too.”
This way, she wouldn’t have to be separated from her daughter.
And when the two of them had a baby, she could help take care of her daughter during her confinement.
Even though Qin Wenhuo had adopted two kids, the young couple would have one of their own eventually, right?
Fu Mingxue: …?
Good news: her mom was finally willing to leave with her.
Bad news: her mom was going to live on the base with Qin Wenhuo.
God, at this rate, her marriage to Qin Wenhuo—was doomed!
“—That’s, uh, great!” The sky was falling.
Qin Wenhuo squinted at her, noticing her odd expression.
Was she happy? Or not?
“Son-in-law, you should stay here tonight. You and Mingxue are married now, you should share a room.”
When Fu Mingxue heard this, she nearly jumped up. “What? Share a room? No way!”
Her overreaction made Qin Wenhuo look at her in surprise.
Fu’s mother glared at her too. “Why not? You two are already registered as a married couple. That makes you husband and wife.”
Even before registration, just having a wedding banquet made you a couple!
Fu Mingxue realized she’d overreacted.
She forced a stiff smile and explained, “I just mean—it’s too sudden. We haven’t known each other that long. I think maybe we should wait until after the banquet to, uh, share a room.”
God, she’d just been reborn and was ready to work hard and get ahead. How did she end up pushing herself onto the heated brick bed?
And the worst part was, she’d walked right onto it herself."
