Chapter 127: Found the Seeds for Baby Cabbage

Scavenging in the Wasteland

The Shi family had completely run out of space to store any extra things.

At first, Shi Yuebai had been quite pleased—after sending Zhao Qiansun and Huo Chenggui on their way, a patch of space had opened up in the Shi family’s courtyard.

But her happiness didn’t last two days before that spot was piled high with bunches of scallions.

And not just any scallions—they were all mature, lush green, with dewdrops clinging to them.

Those droplets were so clear and sparkling, they hardly seemed like anything of this world.

Shi Yuebai glanced at them but didn’t say a word.

In truth, those weren’t dewdrops on the scallions.

Each droplet was actually spiritual energy, condensed to the extreme inside the spirit-gathering array she’d set up.

When the spiritual energy in a certain area becomes dense enough, it manifests as things like swirling white mist or crystal-clear dew.

That’s why some places blessed with natural energy always seem shrouded in an ethereal, fairy-like aura.

This spiritual energy helps all living things grow, and once they reach a certain point, they in turn nourish the environment.

Over time, the surroundings gradually improve.

People living in such places grow healthy and live long lives.

To say nothing else—just a single drop of spiritual dew from the tip of a scallion could keep a scavenger on the wasteland energized for days.

They could run five kilometers without breaking a sweat.

Let alone the Shi family, who lived surrounded by spiritual energy all year round.

The one who benefited most was Shi Xiangrui.

She’d been by Shi Yuebai’s side since birth, never even had a sip of milk.

Shi Yuebai fed her pure fat energy.

Now, at just over four months old, Shi Xiangrui was fair and plump, with perfect little hands and feet.

When others played with her, she’d babble and coo in response.

If someone walked past the shopping cart, her big, bright eyes would follow them all the way.

Of course, Shifu Ze, only a little over ten days old, looked just as healthy.

Shi Yaoyao and Xiao Jiao fed both babies a little water from the big tank every day.

They’d fill up bottles for them, and the babies would drink eagerly, swallowing without any trouble.

But out on the wasteland, you could tell just by watching many newborns try to swallow that they weren’t healthy.

In this respect, Shi Xiangrui and Shi Fuze were already ahead of 50% of the children on the wasteland.

Shi Yuebai left the dumbfounded Commander Qiao behind and entered the Shi family’s compound.

She’d filled every possible spot inside and outside the “Tong” frame with spirit-gathering arrays.

Anywhere she could draw a small array, she did—even outside other people’s homes.

So now, inside and outside the “Tong” frame, a faint white mist drifted in the air.

The white smoke swirled and drifted down into the ditches.

When Shi Xiangrui saw Shi Yuebai come in, she immediately started babbling, “Ya ya ah…”

Shi Yuebai wheeled herself over, heading first to Shi Fuze.

She reached out and touched Shi Fuze’s head.

When she’d just taken Shi Fuze from Ying Ruoying, the child had looked like a skinned rabbit.

Now, she was fair and clean—completely transformed.

She was sleeping with her eyes closed.

Sensing a warm current from above, the little “white rabbit” baby let out a soft “mm,” her whole body relaxing, sprawled out like a little frog.

Shi Xiangrui, lying beside her, grew anxious when her sister ignored her, craning her head toward Shi Yuebai.

“Yi yi, ya, ah—”

The little one waved her arms and kicked her legs, fussing and whining.

Shi Yuebai found it odd—she’d never really liked children.

Whenever she spoke to the kids at home, it was always in a commanding or scolding tone.

But starting with Shi Yaoyao, then Shi Xiangrui and Shi Fuze, they all seemed to like her.

Especially Shi Xiangrui—she’d reach her little hands up whenever she saw Shi Yuebai, wanting to be held.

After feeding Shi Fuze her fat energy, Shi Yuebai picked Shi Xiangrui up from the shopping cart.

Only then did Shi Xiangrui quiet down, staring at her sister with big, bright eyes.

“That’s enough now. Don’t think I’ll hold you forever just because you act cute.”

With a chubby roll of fat under her chin, Shi Yuebai looked down at Shi Xiangrui.

That roll of fat became even more obvious.

And yet, Shi Xiangrui wasn’t scared into tears?

Even Shi Yuebai found it unbelievable.

Who knows if Shi Xiangrui understood, but she actually grinned.

Finding it amusing, Shi Yuebai lifted and lowered her head, making the fat under her chin wobble again and again.

Shi Xiangrui laughed even harder.

“Your sense of humor is really low,” Shi Yuebai muttered, passing the giggling Shi Xiangrui to Ah Hong, who happened to be walking by.

She turned and headed for the vegetable plots.

She didn’t even glance at Shi Xiangrui, who, now in someone else’s arms, craned her neck with longing, eyes glued to her departing sister.

After a short rest, Shi Yuebai began to sort out the chaotic energy running through her body.

At this point, she’d more or less given up on being careful.

As long as she didn’t explode, whatever.

She only sorted out her internal energy when she had the time.

She’d already straightened out the meridians from her fingertips to her shoulders.

The parts she could move now, besides her neck, were her hands and shoulders.

Next, Shi Yuebai planned to work on the meridians in her legs, so she could stand up again.

She was tired of sitting in a wheelchair all day.

She sat at the edge of the three vegetable plots, sorting her energy while looking at the newly expanded gardens.

All three plots had been enlarged.

Each was a rectangular patch.

Behind the gardens, plans for digging new ditches had already begun.

The Qiao family’s living space had been squeezed by all the expired food.

Shi Yuebai didn’t even have to say anything.

The Qiao family couldn’t wait to dig the ditches longer so they could move to a new area.

The ditch would extend from the front of the “Tong” frame out to both sides, eventually wrapping around it.

The garbage behind the gardens had been cleared out by Nong Yasi and Second Sister-in-law Shi, to make room for the Qiao family’s new ditch.

That way, Da Jiao and Xu Xuejiao wouldn’t have to waste effort clearing trash when digging.

All the rebar from the trash heap was given to Xu Xuejiao, to set traps at the bottom of the ditch.

Shi Yaoyao and Xiao Jiao ran past Shi Yuebai, who closed her eyes and reminded them, “Don’t go into the ditch—you might get stabbed by the rebar.”

If, by chance, someone from the Shi family got killed by accident, it wouldn’t be a big deal.

Shi Yuebai could use a soul-summoning spell to revive them in time.

But it would still hurt.

Ah Hong was behind the garden wall, building another wall—just in case the kids ran off.

Once Shi Xiangrui and Shi Fuze learned to crawl, they’d be all over the place when no one was looking.

If they fell into the ditch and got impaled, the adults might never even find their tiny bodies.

Gradually, three small courtyards took shape behind the “Tong” frame.

Behind the Shi family’s courtyard were the vegetable plots and a set of steps.

Up the steps was a small swimming pool.

Above that, the public restroom.

Ah Hong saw Shi Yuebai sitting by the gardens and came over to discuss something.

“Yuebai, do you think we should make another vegetable plot?”

“Yesterday, they found baby cabbage seeds in the underground mall.”

(Hua Hua recently sent me some bagels. I love Hua Hua.)"
