Chapter 79: The Little Troublemaker’s Transformation
Wild and Dashing in the 80s
Before Qian Duoshu could answer, Erdan started pestering Su Qinghu again. “He’s so little—what if there’s a flood? He’s just a kid, we can’t afford to pay if something happens…”
By the end, his tone grew more and more aggrieved, and the look he gave Su Qinghu was practically spelling out: “Don’t bring that little brat along, our family would have way more fun without him.”
Su Qinghu took a deep breath, pinched herself, and finally managed to stifle the laughter threatening to burst out.
Erdan thought she was seriously considering his concerns and relaxed a bit, his mind spinning faster. “How about we wait until he’s older to bring him along, okay?”
Seeing his earnest, grown-up expression, Su Qinghu almost laughed again.
To keep from cracking up, she had to stay silent and do her best to keep a straight face.
“He’s so smart and cute, I bet he’s his parents’ and grandparents’ little treasure.” Erdan struggled to suppress his true feelings and forced himself to find some nice words for the little rascal he was sure was full of mischief. “Such a cute, clever, and good-looking kid—if he got brain-damaged swimming, his whole family would be heartbroken.”
Su Qinghu: “Pfft!”
She couldn’t hold it in anymore!
Erdan, with all his little schemes, actually managed to compliment another kid? That was truly eye-opening!
Erdan was stunned by her laughter, staring at her in confusion. What was going on? Why didn’t this feel like he expected?
“Duoduo knows how to swim.” Before Chen Yan could say anything, Qian Yin, who was walking over with a pile of ice creams, heard Erdan’s words and grinned. “He was playing in the water with a swim ring when he was two. He learned to swim last year, and he’s already been swimming a few times this year.”
As he spoke, he shoved the ice creams in front of Dadan and Erdan. “Here, take one.”
Dadan and Erdan, still reeling from Qian Duoshu’s many talents, couldn’t even muster up excitement for the ice cream.
“One each,” Su Qinghu said, ruffling Qian Duoshu’s little head and looking at Dadan and Erdan. “Let’s not sell the rest for now. Let’s pack up and go meet up with your grandparents.”
As luck would have it, Su Qinghu had barely left the shop when she was called over by Chen’s parents and Qian Yin with Qian Duoshu.
If she hadn’t needed to show Mrs. Chen (Meng) the way to the perm shop, there probably wouldn’t have been any conflict between Chen Yan and the kids.
As for Chen Yan, she’d left her parents, husband, and child to buy something for them and maybe a little treat for her son, planning to meet up at their reserved table. Who knew she’d run into Dadan and Erdan playing street vendors? Her temper flared, and the rest was history.
Luckily, when Su Qinghu took her mother-in-law Meng to the hair salon, she knew Chen Yan was headed this way. So after dropping her off and telling the hairdresser what Meng wanted, she hopped on her tricycle and rushed over with the kids.
Sure enough, the three had gotten into it.
But this time, even if she didn’t step in, someone else did—and it was a total knockout.
Even if the problem-solver was just a little kid, the effect was pretty good.
When Su Qinghu said they wouldn’t sell the rest, Erdan started an internal tug-of-war.
If they stopped selling, that little rascal would definitely make fun of him, maybe even say something snarky in front of his new mom.
But if he insisted on selling everything, who knew how long it would take? Would there still be time to eat out with Grandpa and Grandma?
Dadan looked at Su Qinghu. “If we go now, it’ll cut into our selling time. How do we make up for that?”
Qian Yin waited until the two had taken their ice creams before handing them out to the others, including Qian Duoshu, then smiled at Dadan.
Chen Yan frowned when she saw Qian Yin give her son ice cream and was about to say something, but her son patted her shoulder. “I’ll just have three bites.”
Chen Yan immediately fell silent and watched Dadan, who was negotiating with Su Qinghu.
Su Qinghu said, “What do you mean, how do we make up for it? Whatever you don’t sell today is still yours. Tomorrow, you’ll keep selling from what’s left at home. If you don’t finish today, sell it tomorrow.”
“And,” Su Qinghu paused, “are you sure you can sell the last six today?”
Dadan said, “If we pack up now, and we can’t sell the rest later, will you help us sell them all?”
“Sure,” Su Qinghu waved her hand. “I thought it was something serious!”
As long as it didn’t involve money, she was fine with anything.
Erdan reached out to stop Su Qinghu, looking up at her. “I have another request.”
Su Qinghu pulled her hand back and looked down at him with a teasing smile.
“You have to make up with me,” Erdan said, clearly determined not to let anyone pack up until she agreed.
Su Qinghu said nothing.
Erdan pressed on, “I said sorry to you… Can you forgive me? Will you talk to me?”
“Go ahead,” Su Qinghu nodded.
Erdan’s eyes lit up and he quickly said, “I’m sorry.”
“Do you think ‘I’m sorry’ is enough?” Su Qinghu’s smile faded. “Just because you say sorry, I have to accept it?”
Erdan stared at her, stunned, his heart pounding uncomfortably.
Seeing his involuntary fear, Su Qinghu finally let him off the hook. “Remember, before you say or do anything, think it through. Think about whether you can follow through, and whether others will want to make up with you right away even if you do.”
Erdan’s eyes turned red. He retreated behind Dadan, refusing to look at Su Qinghu.
For a moment, Su Qinghu wondered if she’d gone too far and scared the child.
But apologizing to him didn’t seem quite right~~~
“Hey, Gao Haisheng,” Su Qinghu took a step forward and called him.
Erdan stepped back.
Su Qinghu advanced, Erdan retreated, and just like that, she backed him into a corner.
She stuck out her pinky. “Do you want to make up or not? If you do, let’s pinky swear.”
Erdan hung his head, refusing to look at her or speak.
“Hurry up! If we make up, you can try on your new clothes,” Su Qinghu coaxed.
Erdan’s head snapped up. Really? She actually bought him new clothes? Brand new?
“Hurry, I only managed to buy them for you thanks to a foreigner’s help,” Su Qinghu urged.
Erdan quickly stuck out his hand and hooked his pinky with hers, shaking hard. “Pinky swear! A hundred years, no changing!”
Su Qinghu laughed. “Okay, no changing.”
“Whoever breaks it will turn into a poop-head when they grow up!” Erdan declared, staring at Su Qinghu’s pretty face and playing his trump card.
Su Qinghu: “…”
Getting bold, huh? That pitiful look from before—was that even you?
“Say it!” Erdan urged when Su Qinghu hesitated. “Say it, and we’re really made up.”
Su Qinghu took a deep breath. “Fine! Whoever breaks it will turn into a poop-head when they grow up!”
Silly boy, she was already an adult—unless she did something drastic, she wasn’t going to turn ugly.
But as for him—
Su Qinghu just smiled without saying more.
He was only six or seven, still a decade away from his looks being set. Hopefully, in these ten years, he wouldn’t really turn into a poop-head~~~"
