Chapter 80: Made by Human Cubs

Wild and Dashing in the 80s

Chen Yan watched their childish interactions, utterly full of disdain.

This feeling of disdain lingered all the way until they left the bustling commercial district—it still hadn’t faded.

It was one thing for kids to speak without manners, but for her to join in their nonsense too? It was just… just… speechless!

If Su Qinghu weren’t busy pedaling a tricycle with three kids on board, she would have given Chen Yan a fitting description after seeing her expression—like that meme of the old man on the subway staring at his phone.

Of course, the looks she was getting from passersby weren’t much better.

Here she was, a stylish and modern beauty, riding a somewhat worn-out tricycle with three clearly different-aged kids, all of them cheerful, slowly making their way down the street…

No matter how you looked at it, it was just odd!

“Who is this girl?” someone whispered.

She was undeniably good-looking, but what she was doing didn’t match her appearance at all.

Someone chimed in, “Maybe they’re filming something?”

The women on TV are always pretty, and this one is too. Only on TV would you see a pretty woman doing something so out of character, right?

“I’ve seen people filming over by Houhai, but they had cameras. There’s nothing like that here.”

“Maybe she just thinks riding a tricycle is fun?”

“Who knows.”

There were a lot of people in this area, and it was noisy. Although Su Qinghu couldn’t make out what they were saying, she could feel the curious stares directed at her.

Seeing that the road ahead was clear, she turned to look, only to meet the bold gaze of a young woman.

The young woman was startled when Su Qinghu looked back, her eyes widening as she stared for a while. The moment Su Qinghu looked away, she rushed forward and asked directly, “Where did you get your hair and clothes done?”

She really liked this style!

Su Qinghu gripped the handlebars, glanced at the girl’s face, and gave her the name of the hair salon, then said, “I bought the clothes at the department store.”

The young woman said, “But I’ve never seen anything like that at the department store.”

“Just because you didn’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not there, big sister.” Little Qian Duoshu stood up, placed his small hand on Su Qinghu’s back, and said to the young woman, “I’ve seen it before.”

The young woman wasn’t annoyed. She even turned to ask the little guy, “You remember? Can you tell me where exactly?”

She was just joking, but Qian Duoshu started chattering away, explaining everything clearly, and even added, “If you still can’t find it, it probably means it’s sold out.”

Chen Yan looked at her son, her pride barely contained. “My son has a good memory. If he says he saw it, he definitely did.”

The young woman looked at him, then at Su Qinghu, and felt there was a real chance it had sold out. After thinking for a moment, she said, “Then I’ll just have to check back a few more times!”

She looked so good that even if no one asked her directly, people would definitely remember and go looking for the same clothes.

That was her plan anyway—to remember the style and look for it later. She hadn’t expected to make eye contact with the person herself. Since they’d made eye contact, it was much faster to just ask where the clothes and hair were done.

After answering, Su Qinghu continued forward with the kids, while Chen Yan and Qian Yin walked beside her, keeping an eye on the children and chatting with Su Qinghu.

Inside the tricycle, Da Dan and Er Dan sat on either side, with Qian Duoshu in the middle, full of curiosity. He kept asking questions, calling each of them “big brother.” He was full of questions, but so polite that no one could get annoyed.

Er Dan didn’t want to pay him any attention, but Qian Duoshu especially liked talking to him. “Second brother, are you coming to sell things again tomorrow?”

“Yeah,” Er Dan replied curtly.

Qian Duoshu asked, “Can I come too?”

Er Dan finally spared the little guy a glance. “Ask your mom.”

His dad’s sister didn’t seem to like their family much, so she probably wouldn’t want her kid tagging along either.

If that was the case, he’d let the little troublemaker’s mom be the bad guy.

Qian Duoshu turned to Da Dan. “Big brother, if my mom agrees, will you let me come with you?”

“…” Da Dan was lost in thought and was caught off guard. After a pause, he said, “Ask your mom first, then ask… our family.”

Su Qinghu, facing away from them, was both amused and exasperated by Da Dan’s awkwardness.

Just listen to that answer—tsk tsk!

But Qian Duoshu was still a child. He immediately turned to Chen Yan. “Mom, can I?”

Chen Yan opened her mouth to refuse, but Qian Yin stopped her. “It’s rare for the kid to have a request. Let him go—it’ll be a good social experience.”

The words “social experience” made Chen Yan reflexively look at Su Qinghu and Da Dan, Er Dan.

Both boys looked right back at her.

She was the one who’d just said “social experience” was just a trick to fool kids. Now it was her own child’s turn—let’s see what she’d say!

Chen Yan’s gaze shifted to her son, then, under the boys’ stares, she pretended to be calm and looked away.

Just… just pretend that never happened.

“Okay,” Chen Yan forced a smile and said gently to her son, “Then remember to bring your own water bottle tomorrow.”

Qian Duoshu nodded. “Okay.”

Hearing Chen Yan speak like that, Su Qinghu instantly got goosebumps. At this moment, Chen Yan felt to her like a tigress suddenly retracting her claws and softly going “meow.”

It was… quite a shock!

As they walked, Qian Yin said, “I have to host a few friends tomorrow, and Duoduo’s mom will be with me. How about letting Duoduo’s grandma watch the kids with you tomorrow?”

How could Su Qinghu refuse?

With Chen Yan’s personality and her views on certain things, Su Qinghu was more than happy for her not to come.

Chen Yan still felt uneasy, especially when it came to Su Qinghu, who always seemed unreliable. But with her own mother there, she felt a bit more at ease.

“Is there anything Duoduo can’t eat?” Su Qinghu stopped the tricycle, got off, and asked Chen Yan and Qian Yin.

Chen Yan wanted to list the things her son didn’t like, so Su Qinghu could pay attention, but her husband spoke first. “He’s not allergic to anything, and there’s nothing he especially dislikes, so you and Mom can just feed him whatever tomorrow.”

Chen Yan: “…”

Su Qinghu nodded, turned around, and helped Qian Duoshu off the tricycle. Da Dan hopped off as well.

That left only Er Dan in the tricycle.

Su Qinghu looked at him, signaling with her eyes for him to get down.

Er Dan pursed his lips, looked at the ever-fickle Su Qinghu, and, without even blushing, said, “It’s too high. I’m scared.”

Su Qinghu choked, coughed a few times, and finally caught her breath. Looking at the proud, attention-seeking Er Dan, she was at a loss for words.
