Chapter 93: No Room for Negotiation
Wild and Dashing in the 80s
“Do you think I’m that kind of person?” Erdan scoffed, “I don’t need to spend your money. I have someone to take care of me!”
His parents had already given him plenty!
Ever since they left the hospital, his new mom had been generous. Whatever other kids ate or wore, he and his brother got the same. If others didn’t have something, they still did. Just his pocket money this month was more than what the top student in the whole school got!
He was proud, a little smug even. But Qian Duoshu, who had yet to develop such strong emotional awareness at his age, looked up at Erdan from Chen Yan’s arms and tried to sell himself, “Duoduo has lots of money.”
Erdan replied, “So do I. I can even earn my own money.”
“But you have to save your money in the bank when it adds up,” Qian Duoshu blinked and said seriously, “I put some of my money in the bank, but I still have lots to spend.”
Erdan: “!!!”
Erdan stared at Qian Duoshu in disbelief. This little guy was only four, just two years younger than him—how did he have so much money?
“Big brother, having one more person to spend money on you,” Qian Duoshu gazed at Erdan from across the way, “isn’t that good?”
Chen Yan couldn’t take it anymore. Her son was in her arms, yet he was negotiating with someone else about leaving her!
“Duoduo, did you forget?” Chen Yan reminded him, “Aren’t you supposed to go to Shanghai with your dad’s teacher during summer break?”
“…Alright.” Qian Duoshu drooped his head. Grandpa and Grandma had said that if you promised someone something, unless it was one of a few special situations, you had to keep your word.
He had to do it.
Su Qinghu watched Chen Yan and Qian Duoshu with amusement, barely able to hold back her laughter. Her sister-in-law was actually competing for affection with a child!
Just as she was laughing, she suddenly felt something brush against her back, and the nape of her neck was tugged.
“???”
She narrowed her eyes and whipped her head around, catching sight of a middle-aged man about to walk past her. Without getting up, she used the emergency move Chen Lie had taught her and kicked him straight into the pool.
A huge splash erupted in the pool, drawing everyone’s attention. The young man who’d come with the middle-aged man froze for a second before jumping in to pull him out.
Su Qinghu watched with a blank face as the man choked on a few mouthfuls of water. The corners of her lips slowly curled up. Bastard, how dare he try to take advantage of her!
Erdan was the first to notice Su Qinghu’s move. Watching her cold smile, he blinked, stood up, got ready, and then leapt at the flailing man, pushing him under the water again.
Su Qinghu couldn’t help but laugh, her anger instantly dissipating.
At this point, Dadan also stood up and scolded Erdan, “I told you before, you can’t just rush in to save someone in the water!”
With that, he dove in, sending up another spray, making it impossible for the nervous young man to keep his eyes open.
“I’m here to save you!” Dadan swam over, exaggeratedly trying to pull the middle-aged man, flailing his limbs, and shouted, “Uncle! Uncle, work with me! The water isn’t deep, stop thrashing!”
Just as the man was about to lift his head, he suddenly let out a howl, clutching his groin and curling up.
With that, he sank under the water, his mouth and nose filling with water.
The middle-aged man let go and struggled to the surface, but now he couldn’t even shout.
Qian Duoshu stared, his mind a little muddled. Why did the big brothers say they were saving someone, but their actions didn’t look like saving at all?
Chen Yan looked at the mischievous Dadan and Erdan, then at Su Qinghu sitting calmly by the pool, and a phrase suddenly popped into her head—birds of a feather flock together.
These three, just like Chen Lie, were definitely not “good people” in the traditional sense!
Ms. Meng frowned, finally sensing something was off. She looked at the chaotic scene of adults and children, made sure her own family was fine, and called out, “You two, come back! He’s a grown man—what can you kids do?”
Dadan and Erdan didn’t wait for her to finish and swam back.
Dadan stood in the water, face up, frowning and complaining, “Grandma, that uncle clearly doesn’t know any first aid. I tried to save him, but he wouldn’t calm down and cooperate, and even tried to grab me! That’s the most dangerous thing!”
“Yeah, I heard from the grandpas who swim in winter that if someone falls in the water, you can’t grab the rescuer, or both people will be in danger!” Erdan nodded seriously. “That uncle grabbed my brother and I couldn’t pull him off. It was so scary~~~”
After the two finished complaining, the young man dragged the middle-aged man out of the pool. The man was still in pain, just gritting his teeth and glaring at the boys, unable to speak.
The young man glanced at Su Qinghu’s group, then quickly looked away.
Just their looks alone—adults and kids alike—were enough to make anyone wary. What kind of family had every member, young and old, looking so good?
Anyone with a brain could tell these people weren’t to be messed with.
“Staff! Where’s the staff?” The middle-aged man finally caught his breath, his voice hoarse. “I want to call the police! I want to file a complaint!”
The staff member in charge of pool safety came over, speaking politely, “Sir, what would you like to complain about? If you want to call the police, I can help. What’s the reason?”
The middle-aged man, forgetting his own behavior just moments ago, blurted out, “I want to complain that your pool staff didn’t rescue me in time! And I want to report these kids for attacking me!”
The staff paused, giving the onlookers a chance to react. Then an old man spoke up, “We all saw the staff come over in time. By the time he got here, your friend had already dragged you out.”
“Yeah, what’s it got to do with the staff? And those kids were trying to save you. You didn’t know what to do after falling in and started grabbing at them. If they hadn’t done something, you would’ve dragged them under too!”
“Have a conscience! With people like you twisting the truth, who’d dare save someone in trouble in the future?”
“You don’t know anything!” the middle-aged man shouted. “These kids attacked me! Didn’t you see?”
“They were saving you! How can you be so ungrateful?”
The middle-aged man, now furious and almost spitting blood, couldn’t hold back anymore. “Call the police! Get the police!”
The young man had no choice but to call.
The police arrived quickly, checked the scene, found nothing amiss, and told everyone to take their conversation outside so as not to disturb other swimmers.
Su Qinghu went outside, grabbed a piece of lightweight silk she’d cut earlier, and in a few quick moves, wrapped it into an off-shoulder short dress, striding out confidently.
The policewoman following her tried to keep a straight face but was inwardly delighted.
What a beauty! Even her shoulders were so pretty!
“It was her! She tripped me!” The middle-aged man, still in pain, glared at Su Qinghu, all other thoughts gone, and shouted angrily, “She’s the one who tripped me into the pool!”"
