Chapter 94: A Little Fun Between Husband and Wife

Wild and Dashing in the 80s

The male police officer followed the man’s gaze, suddenly froze, then looked at Su Qinghu a couple more times before uncertainly looking away.

Compared to the real person, that two-inch photo was way off...

After asking a few routine questions, the officer got to the point. Just two or three questions in, the middle-aged man started to panic.

“Comrade, are you alright? Please answer truthfully,” the officer said. “The area where those women were is not on your way out of the swimming pool, and this female comrade was sitting right at the edge of the pool—barely a foot wide. You—”

“I—I—I was just trying to measure the perimeter of the pool,” the middle-aged man blurted out a foolish answer in his panic.

“The pool already has the length and width marked,” Qian Duoshu blinked. “Uncle, do you even know how long your average step is?”

The man was stunned, looking at Qian Duoshu as if she were some rare creature, full of disbelief. How old was this kid? She already knew about perimeters, lengths, widths, and average step lengths?

“Officer, I fell in by myself. I don’t want to report it anymore!” Realizing something was wrong, the man glanced at Su Qinghu and her group, suddenly feeling a chill down his spine. He turned to leave.

Damn! Why would rich and powerful people come to a public swimming pool like this? Can’t they pull some strings to use the fancy pools in the compounds?!

“Wait a minute,” the officer called after the man, his tone official. “Comrade, this constitutes a false police report. Please come with us for further education.”

He had his colleagues escort the man out first. The officer lagged a few steps behind, and once the others were out of sight, he raised his hand smartly and saluted Su Qinghu. “Sister-in-law!”

Su Qinghu was taken aback. “You know me?”

“I recognize your photo,” the officer—Cai Huayang—smiled. “I just transferred here at the end of May. I’ve been getting used to the new job and environment, and haven’t had a chance to visit your home yet. But Captain Chen already came to see me, so I know about you.”

Su Qinghu was still confused. “Photo?”

She didn’t have any photos except for the marriage certificate.

“Your marriage certificate photo,” Cai Huayang grinned. “If you ever need anything, feel free to come to me. Captain Chen already gave me a heads-up.”

Su Qinghu’s eyes crinkled with a smile. “Alright, if I really need something, I definitely won’t be polite.”

The marriage certificate was locked safely in her bedside drawer, and it didn’t look like it had been touched. So... when did Chen Lie take it out?

Cai Huayang chatted a bit more, then strode off.

Su Qinghu, in high spirits, chuckled softly, withdrew her gaze, bent down, and cupped the heads of Da Dan, Er Dan, and Qian Duoshu, kissing each of them on the forehead. “Thank you, my three little men, for protecting me~~~”

Er Dan beamed and boasted to Chen Lie, “Daddy protected you too!”

“Mhm, your dad protected me too.” Su Qinghu nodded, her smile bright and radiant. “When he comes back, I’ll reward him too.”

Chen Yan had been shocked that her brother Chen Lie had greeted the officer and looked after Su Qinghu. Now, hearing Su Qinghu say she’d reward Chen Lie after kissing the kids, she nearly lost it.

Is she going to kiss Chen Lie too?

Did she have to say it out loud? Even if the kids didn’t get it, their mom was right there—wasn’t she embarrassed at all?

At first, Mrs. Meng had mixed feelings when the young officer mentioned her son had told him to look after Su Qinghu. Now, hearing Su Qinghu say she’d reward her son with a kiss, she felt a bit embarrassed to witness this little marital affection. But then she thought, maybe it’s good that her daughter-in-law expresses her feelings openly. The next second, she couldn’t help but smile.

It’s nice—this vibrant, lively energy is truly refreshing.

After leaving the pool, no one planned to go back in. They quickly showered and tidied up, then left the swimming center together.

It was still early, but Chen Yan was getting restless. She was a bit worried about how Qian Yin and her in-laws were handling the guests, so after telling her mother, Mrs. Meng, she took a reluctant Qian Duoshu and left.

Mrs. Meng looked at Su Qinghu, who smiled. “Let’s go to my place first, return the car, then head to the compound to see Dad.”

She had everything arranged nicely, which made Mrs. Meng happy. She followed Su Qinghu home and waited while she returned the car.

But Su Qinghu didn’t return the car right away. First, she went to the kitchen to fetch the watermelon she’d put in the cold water bucket that morning, planning to share it with everyone.

Just as she came out holding the watermelon, she saw Er Dan dart out of the living room at lightning speed—she could practically feel the wind he stirred up.

Watching him disappear out the door, Su Qinghu entered the living room, puzzled. “Where did Er Dan go?”

Mrs. Meng said, “I don’t know. I’d just poured myself a glass of water, turned around, and he was gone.”

Da Dan met Su Qinghu’s gaze and shook his head without hesitation.

Er Dan had gone into her bedroom before running out. That... wasn’t something he should tell her, right?

Su Qinghu knew Da Dan wasn’t telling the truth, but didn’t press further. It was hot outside, and all she wanted was to enjoy some cold watermelon and cool down.

Meanwhile, Er Dan had already dashed to the nearest post office. He handed his sweaty, crumpled money to the clerk, asked for paper, an envelope, and a stamp, then wrote a dozen lines in a mix of pinyin and Chinese characters. He folded a paper square from his pocket, stuffed it in, and grinned as he handed it over. “Uncle, please send my letter quickly!”

The clerk glanced at the address and smiled more warmly. “I will. Now hurry home, it’s hot outside.”

Er Dan answered loudly and scampered home.

They were cutting watermelon at home!

At the same time, Zhao Liangyan, who’d been worrying about Chen Lie, finished writing a three- or four-page letter, sealed it, put on a stamp, and mailed it out.

Chen Lie, who was no longer in the country, had no idea what kind of earth-shattering surprises would be waiting for him when he returned.

Er Dan ran home, gobbled up several pieces of watermelon, and finally collapsed contentedly in a chair. When Su Qinghu asked where he’d gone, he didn’t lie—he said he’d mailed a letter to his dad, Chen Lie.

That was a kid’s private business, so Su Qinghu just nodded and didn’t ask what he’d written.

Later, they went to the compound, had dinner, and brought the kids home. After sending the children to bathe, Su Qinghu finally had time to check the red envelope Li Ruishun had given her.

It was a thick stack, all ten-yuan bills.

Su Qinghu counted them—one hundred bills.

A thousand yuan, just as she’d expected.

She put the money away, took out the cash Chen Lie had left for her, sorted out the amount she wanted to set aside for the kids, then stretched and smiled.

She needed to plan out this thousand yuan well—her goal was to earn ten thousand, to become a “ten-thousand-yuan household.”

More to come."
