Chapter 100: Avalanche!

Big Boss Builds Infrastructure in the Interstellar Era

Wu Xingyu looked at the three raised butts in front of him, wrinkled his nose in distaste, and turned his gaze away, his expression darkening as he walked off to the side.

Something was seriously off about this route. They’d been walking for over an hour and hadn’t run into a single minor monster. There weren’t even any trees or grass in sight—just the distant, unsettling roars of unknown beasts.

Wu Xingyu shot a disgruntled glance at the mountain range to their left. They had to have run into some kind of minor monster, he was sure of it.

He lowered his eyes to hide the sour feeling in his heart, then vented his frustration by kicking a half-buried stone poking out of the snow in front of him.

The little stone shot forward with surprising force, smacking into a large snow-covered rock ahead. The mound of snow piled up on top, like a little hill, suddenly slid off in a heap, landing squarely on Wu Xingyu’s head while his mind was wandering elsewhere.

Wu Xingyu’s face froze, utterly bewildered.

It wasn’t until the icy snow slid down from his head and into his collar that he jolted back to his senses, his handsome face twisting in annoyance. “Damn rock.”

He gave the big snow-covered rock a vicious kick.

The rock shifted, lost its balance, and, being right at the edge of a small hill, immediately started rolling down with a series of heavy thuds, making the ground tremble with each bounce.

Wu Xingyu just snorted, his face dark as he shook his head wildly like a big dog, trying to shake the snow off. Finally, he pulled a large towel from his spatial ring, threw it over his head, and started drying himself off through gritted teeth.

With each swipe of the towel, his handsome but thunderous face flickered in and out of view.

On the steep cliff above, a not-so-stable layer of snow began to loosen with the tremors, quietly peeling away and starting to fall in sheets.

Mo Xie, ever alert, looked up just in time to witness the spectacle. He blurted out in shock, “Avalanche?”

The three who’d been bent over pulling up grass also looked up, their jaws dropping as they stared at the magnificent, surging sea of snow cascading down.

“Holy shit, that looks badass as hell! This is the coolest thing I’ve seen yet,” Pei Yu exclaimed, head tilted back, clearly enjoying the show and even offering a running commentary.

Yuan An and Yun He, one on each side, grabbed him and started running, shouting in panic, “Are you stupid? That’s an avalanche! An avalanche! Even SSS-level powerhouses can get buried and freeze to death under one of those!”

“There was this one unlucky 3S guy who thought he was hot stuff and broke into the merfolk’s home on Neptune, trying to steal a mermaid to bear his children. He ran into an avalanche on the polar ice cap and got buried alive, froze to death before he could even touch a mermaid’s hand. The merfolk called him a shameless bastard and hung his body at the city gate as a warning to other intruders. Talk about dying in vain.”

“Yeah, that’s about as unlucky as it gets.”

Pei Yu, who’d spent over twenty years on the exile star and had barely even seen snow, let alone heard of anyone being crushed and frozen to death by it, was instantly moved to tears by the story. He shook off their hands and bolted away at top speed.

The reason he’d survived this long without getting killed? He could run faster than anyone else.

“See you later, nephews! If you get buried, I’ll come back and dig you out. Stay alive, okay? Uncle’s running first!”

“Damn it!” Yuan An and Yun He panted as they chased after his shameless, slippery figure, cursing under their breath.

Gritting his teeth, Yun He muttered angrily, “That’s it, I need to draw more agility cards or get an agility ring. I have to outrun him next time.”

Yuan An was already too out of breath to speak.

The milky-white waves of snow, steaming in the cold air, surged toward them with overwhelming force. Wu Xingyu, still drying his hair and with his view blocked, was a beat slower to react.

When he finally saw the roaring avalanche, even he was stunned. He tossed the towel aside and sprinted after Yuan An and the others.

But luck wasn’t on his side. After just a couple of steps, there was a sharp crack as he stepped on a long stone, which in turn pried up a smaller rock that smacked him right on the forehead, leaving him dazed.

Staggering backward in a daze, his foot broke through the snow, which split open and trapped his ankle.

Cracks radiated out from where he stood. Wu Xingyu reacted quickly, trying to yank his foot free and run, but that last effort was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

The next second, the ground within a thirty-meter radius collapsed in a circle around him, revealing a massive black hole below.

Wu Xingyu hung suspended in midair for a split second, eyes wide, and before he could even shout, he plummeted straight down.

The avalanche triggered a chain reaction. In the middle section of the mountain range where Yun Qimu was, and on the left front side where Luke was, avalanches began to form as well.

First, a group of Jingjing Beasts outside the campfire, tongues out and eager to lick people, let out a terrified cry. The beast horde surrounding them scattered in an instant, tails tucked, fleeing down the mountain at breakneck speed.

Sensing something was wrong, Yun Qimu looked up. When she saw the fierce torrent of snow pouring down like a silver river, her breath caught and her pupils contracted in shock. “Avalanche! Run, now!”

She snatched up the half-cooked Jingjing Beast meat from the fire and jumped to her feet.

“Avalanche?”

“What’s an avalanche?”

Gemu and the others, equally clueless, stared in confusion.

Yun Qimu’s face was cold. “Get up. Just look up and you’ll know.”

One glance was all it took to scare them out of their wits. The ten Tengu tribe members leapt up at once. “Oh my god, run—!”

With a clatter, they scrambled away in a panic, legs pumping furiously as they switched to full-on escape mode.

When it came to running, the Tengu—who’d spent years outwitting and outrunning berserk beasts—were pros. In the blink of an eye, they’d already reached the downhill path, and in another instant, their figures had vanished.

Yun Qimu, who’d started running late and was now lagging behind:

She thought for a moment, then pulled out a card.

“Heavenly Steed Soars—summon a thousand-mile horse!”

With a piercing whinny, a white-winged horse appeared, floating in front of her.

Its eyes were a clear, deep blue, its coat pure white without a single blemish, its muscles sculpted like a masterwork of art, full of explosive power. Its upright, snow-white ears and proudly raised head made it look utterly majestic.

Yun Qimu’s eyes lit up with satisfaction. She hugged the horse’s neck and swung herself onto its back.

Glancing at the avalanche thundering closer, she smiled and shouted, “Hyah—!”

The white horse arched its neck and neighed, then broke into a gallop.

Its white mane streamed in the wind. Yun Qimu, delighted, reached out to stroke it—what a wonderful feeling."
