Chapter 34: The Worried Old Man

Big Boss Builds Infrastructure in the Interstellar Era

Yun Qimu gritted her teeth and exchanged for two bottles of Light Elixir from the shop, then shoved them into Mo Xie’s hands. “Give these to them.”

Mo Xie was momentarily stunned.

Tang En was also dumbfounded. “What’s this stuff?”

“Light Elixir,” Yun Qimu shot him a glance and said seriously, “200,000 a bottle, super expensive. The one for Old Tang is on credit—remember to pay me back later.”

“Ah, oh, oh.” Tang En was confused for a second, but then his eyes lit up and he swore earnestly, “Don’t worry, Miss Yun, my dad and I will never forget your kindness. We’ll pay you back double in spirit coins!”

Seeing how excited he was, if he wasn’t so broke, he’d probably be shoveling piles of energy coins into Yun Qimu’s arms right now.

Yun Qimu’s lips, stained crimson with blood, curled up slightly in a faint smile.

Double repayment? Sounds great.

Mo Xie, standing to the side, had a complicated expression. Even at a time like this, she’s still thinking about spirit coins? This girl’s obsession with money is really something else.

Though he muttered this inwardly, his actions were swift. With a sweep of his black cloak—like some ancient general—he dashed off after Yun’s dad and Old Tang.

Yun Qimu shot Tang En a look, and he immediately hefted his massive iron sword and ran toward the cave.

Yun Qimu herself stayed put to oversee the situation.

Yun’s dad and Old Tang were both SS-rank, and on the verge of berserk. Even with multiple injuries, their combat power was still terrifying. Especially Yun’s dad—back in Kimberley, he was known as the War God with an indestructible Emperor’s Body. His fighting ability was off the charts.

Before coming to this exile star, Mo Xie had never fought Yun’s dad, but he had gone up against the old master of the Yun family, Yun Cang.

Back during the great war between the Empire and Kimberley, the Empire lost. Yun Cang, the old master, was the leading general of Kimberley at the time. Mo Xie had fought him and lost without suspense, was captured, and exiled here with his subordinates.

So, when Yun’s dad used his powers earlier, Mo Xie recognized him instantly. Though he didn’t understand why a Kimberley Yun family bloodline would end up on this exile star, he still approached with extreme caution.

As soon as he got close, he drew Yun’s dad’s aggro. The two locked eyes and were instantly at each other’s throats.

Bang, bang, bang—two experts clashing at lightning speed, dazzling to watch. If it weren’t for the circumstances, the onlookers would be cheering for the show.

Compared to their fierce battle, Old Tang was a lot less useful. With the berserk beasts suppressed by Yun Qimu, his family’s beast-taming skills were useless—he could only swing his sword around blindly.

With his old bones, he’d only managed to do something earlier by following Yun’s dad and picking up the scraps. Now, without his powers, he wasn’t even as good as an average young man.

Yun Qimu saw Tang En leading Haru and a few kids running over, and finally breathed a sigh of relief. But when she looked up and saw the brewing, boundless storm and the ominous calm before the downpour in the distance, her heart tightened again.

A shadow of worry flashed in her dark eyes. She glanced at the two still fighting, then focused her mental power on Yun’s dad.

Yun’s dad suddenly froze. Mo Xie saw his chance, moved like lightning, subdued him, grabbed his jaw, and quickly poured the elixir down his throat.

He then darted over to Old Tang and did the same.

After drinking the Light Elixir, the two men’s eyes gradually cleared.

Yun Qimu let out a breath, but then a wave of pain surged in her chest and she coughed up a mouthful of blood.

Tang En, Yun Xiaoyu, and the others, who had just arrived, turned pale with shock.

Yun Xiaoyu’s little legs pumped as he rushed over, shouting anxiously, “Dai Mu, Dai Mu, are you okay? Don’t die!”

He ran over and hugged Yun Qimu’s leg, supporting her, afraid she’d collapse.

Yun Qimu’s long dark lashes trembled. From her bloodless lips to her chin, a shocking streak of red stood out, making anyone who saw it worry.

She clicked her tongue lightly, wiped her mouth with her sleeve, then reached out to ruffle Yun Xiaoyu’s short hair. Looking down at him, she managed a smile. “Didn’t you say you’d call me ‘sister’? ‘Dai Mu, Dai Mu’ sounds so awful.”

Yun Xiaoyu looked up at her pale face, eyes brimming with tears. His little face fell, lips quivering, and he mumbled awkwardly, “Sis.”

Yun Qimu’s eyes sparkled with delight. “Louder, I didn’t hear you.”

“Sis! Sis!” Yun Xiaoyu glared at her, shouting twice, then started scolding her with all the seriousness of a little old man, “You’re coughing up blood and still joking with me! Hmph! Dad and I were about to come back for you, so why did you come here? Don’t you know your own body? You’re so weak, how could you come to a place like this? Don’t you know you’ll just slow us down? Look, now you’re coughing blood. When it’s time to run, someone will have to carry you!”

Though his words were full of complaints, his little hands clung tightly to Yun Qimu, refusing to let go.

His wrinkled little face looked just like a worried old grandpa.

Knowing this little guy was all bark and no bite, Yun Qimu wasn’t the least bit upset. She smiled and patted his head, then turned to the expectant Tang En, her expression suddenly serious. “Let’s go back.”

“Mm!” Tang En nodded earnestly, then looked toward Old Tang. Seeing that both men had calmed down, he grinned and waved. “Dad! Uncle Yun! Come on, let’s go back to the village!”

Old Tang, now clear-headed and feeling great, perked up instantly. His eyes shone as he waved back, “Coming, coming!”

Yun’s dad looked confused and a bit silly, but when he saw Yun Qimu and the kids standing there, his face split into a goofy grin. “Nannan!” he called, then trotted over.

Mo Xie, watching from the side, was stunned. Something about this didn’t seem right…

But there was no time to ponder it. Seeing the oncoming tide of darkness in the distance, he frowned deeply, then turned and hurried after the others.

He didn’t know if there was any safe place in this infected zone, but he was sure that mysterious Earth Village was no ordinary place. It was worth the risk to trust it, just this once."
