Chapter 158: A Frenzied Haul
Natural Disasters and the End of the World, She Went Crazy After Stocking Up on Supplies
An Nan immediately stopped in her tracks.
There had to be something good in the safe.
She used her usual method: directly storing the entire safe into her space, then taking out an empty safe with her mind. That way, all the contents would be left inside her space.
She looked inside—and was stunned to find a huge stash of unopened condoms.
An Nan was speechless.
Was Hou Jianming some kind of pervert? Why did he always treat these adult products like treasures and lock them up?
Did he really think a thief would break into his house just to steal condoms?
Though she found his behavior distasteful, An Nan still left the condoms in her space.
She’d already collected quite a few before, but these things were basically non-renewable now. In her previous life, people would pay a fortune for them—it was nearly impossible to get even a single box.
After putting the empty safe away, An Nan headed up to the third floor.
The first thing she saw was a bunch of refrigerators.
Why did Hou Jianming have so many fridges in his house?
She picked one at random and opened it, and what she saw made her eyes light up.
“Insulin?!”
She hadn’t realized before—Hou Jianming must have diabetes.
Insulin was a lifeline for diabetics. She remembered in her previous life, even a high-ranking official had spent a fortune trying to buy up insulin everywhere.
Delighted, An Nan stored all the insulin—fridges and all—into her space.
She opened the next fridge. More insulin.
He’d really stockpiled a lot!
But that made sense. It was a consumable, something you’d need for life, so no amount was ever too much.
If he weren’t the owner of such a big base, there’s no way he could have gotten his hands on so much insulin.
She opened the next fridge, expecting more insulin, but was surprised to find tetanus vaccines instead.
An Nan froze for a second, then let out an inner groundhog scream.
Tetanus!
In the apocalypse, fights broke out all the time, and tetanus was one of the most common and deadly infections. If a wound was deep or the blade rusty, it could easily be fatal.
There were even more tetanus vaccines here than she’d found at the pharmaceutical factory.
Take them all! She wanted every last one!
The next few fridges were also filled with vaccines: flu, rabies, hepatitis B, HPV—just about every common vaccine you could think of, though the quantities varied.
As she stored them one by one, An Nan couldn’t help but marvel. Where had Hou Jianming managed to scrounge up so many vaccines?
Well, they were hers now.
Thank you, Mother Nature!
Soon, An Nan reached the last fridge. To her surprise, it wasn’t filled with vaccines, but with seeds.
As someone who had already managed to grow isatis root in her space, An Nan treated these seeds like priceless treasures and swept them all up.
She’d already collected quite a few seeds at the Taiyu Building, so she didn’t bother checking the varieties this time. As far as she was concerned, seeds were always valuable—she’d take them all, no questions asked.
After clearing out all the fridges, An Nan moved on to the next room.
This room was packed with medicine. Although it wasn’t as much as she’d hoarded from the pharmaceutical factory during the flood, it was still an impressive sight.
At first glance, the whole room looked like a giant pharmacy—one that stocked both Chinese and Western medicine.
Besides all kinds of Western medicines, there was even a whole wall of traditional Chinese medicine cabinets.
After collecting all the Western medicine, An Nan quickly checked the quality of the Chinese herbs. Once she was sure there was no mold or bugs, she stored the cabinets along with the herbs into her space.
In addition to the medicine, there were also a bunch of famous calligraphy scrolls piled up in a corner.
Hou Jianming was a typical philistine. Even though he knew these were valuable, he never bothered to display them, so they were all covered in dust.
An Nan stored the scrolls as well, then took another walk through the villa to make sure she hadn’t missed anything—then began to “strip the house.”
That’s right, she didn’t even spare the house’s decorations.
Crystal chandeliers, rosewood floors, reinforced doors—she took everything, wishing she could return the villa to its bare concrete shell.
Leaving Hou Jianming’s place, An Nan headed straight for Zhu Dazhuang’s corpse.
With his hand and head in tow, she made her way to the third villa.
After unlocking the door, she found that Zhu Dazhuang’s house was much more normal than Hou Jianming’s—there wasn’t a single sleazy “playroom” in sight.
But to her surprise, after searching the first and second floors, she found almost nothing of value—just some of Zhu Dazhuang’s personal belongings.
This second-in-command really was frugal.
After searching for a while, all An Nan managed to collect was the gym equipment from the fitness room.
She couldn’t help but grumble about Hou Jianming’s selfishness. He’d hoarded so many good things for himself, but hadn’t shared a bit with his supposed “brother.”
He really did keep all the resources tightly in his own hands.
If Zhu Dazhuang hadn’t been so brawny and simple-minded, he probably would have fallen out with Hou Jianming long ago.
After collecting all the gym equipment, An Nan headed up to the third floor.
To her surprise, the entire floor had been converted into an interrogation room.
All the windows were boarded up, making it pitch black. An Nan turned on the light and saw bloodstains everywhere.
Besides the dried blood, there were all sorts of torture devices on the walls and shelves—enough to make anyone’s skin crawl.
There were even tiger benches and dissection tables on the floor.
Just looking at them, she could imagine the horrors that had taken place here.
She’d thought Zhu Dazhuang was more normal than Hou Jianming, but this interrogation room was even scarier than a sex dungeon.
Judging by the various bloodstains, both old and new, plenty of victims had suffered here.
An Nan hesitated for a moment, but ended up collecting all the torture devices anyway.
If she left them here, someone else might use them. Better to keep them in her space.
After another sweep, finding nothing else useful, An Nan left Zhu Dazhuang’s villa.
She’d barely walked a few steps when she heard a blood-curdling scream.
“Ahhhhh!”
An Nan looked over and saw a beautiful woman in a dance costume.
This dancer had dropped her necklace while performing earlier and had snuck back to look for it.
She hadn’t expected the banquet hall, which should have been full of laughter and music, to have turned into a blood-soaked slaughterhouse.
Already terrified, she then saw a ghostly pale woman walking out of the villa, carrying the second-in-command’s head.
The sight scared her out of her wits, and she fled in a panic, scrambling away as fast as she could.
An Nan was startled by her scream.
Watching the woman’s retreating figure, An Nan thought for a moment but didn’t give chase.
These dancers were just ordinary residents, bullied and exploited by Hou Jianming and Zhu Dazhuang. They posed no threat to her.
She tossed Zhu Dazhuang’s head aside and walked over to the gunsmith, crouching down to search him."
